Sounds like folks are interested in changing up their characters, so here's how it works:

You can play up to two characters at a time.  I may NPC other characters as I have been if you prefer.

All of your characters have the same XP total, so new characters will be the same level as the one you have now.

All new characters come in with standard beginning equipment.

You may start an Adventurer's Guild, where you can pool resources and buy equipment from the PHB.  In essence you can join the guild and rent/borrow equipment other guild members found.  Obviously characters will want to keep found items useful to them, but scrolls, potions, excess magic weapons and the like can be repurposed this way.  Treat it like your own personal item shop that always buys/sells at market price.  Delving and finding items is the only way to "stock up".

Stupid notifications still not working  :shakefist

Pointing a thumb toward the way you came, Gorbug says, "We should return and rest.  I want to apply silver to my axe in case we run into another one of those."

"I agree", commented Sythaeryn. "I would also like to purchase some silvered arrows for myself."

Sorry guys, I've relied on the site to send me an update when someone posts, and it seems to have stopped working again.

To answer your question, Dixon: Magic items are rare and valuable and there isn't a large-scale market for them.  Your best bet for finding one would be in the dungeon itself.

That's what I figured.

Yeah, the notifications appear to have stopped working completely. Have to check here on a regular basis now.

Cool, we'll stick to 5e for this game.

I'll also mention that if you want to play a different character, we can make that happen as well.  The party has cleared to the point where you can head back out to the tavern, and that's where Gorbug is headed (to rest and add silver to his axe).  Let me know if there's anyhting you want to do before that; otherwise I'll skip ahead.

Did they release magic item rules for 5E? I'd like to get my bow enchanted if that's an option.

Good to see Travis and Sherman in the flesh last weekend.

With the new year, it might be a good time to reflect on where we are and what we want to do.  Is this format working for us?  Do we like the characters we have?  Do we want to continue this game?  Stick with 5e, or play something else?  Is there something we've been itching to try out that we haven't gotten to?

I was introduced to a system called Savage Worlds at the convention.  It uses rules created for the Deadlands RPG (which is one of the campaign worlds).  The system is super simple, and it allows characters of all shapes and sizes.  Like GURPS without all the math.  The same ruleset is used for fantasy, sci-fi, superhero, and horror games.  The campaign world I'm most excited about is the upcoming Rifts conversion.  Anyone familiar with Rifts knows that it's a multi-genre world that includes dragons, wizards, psychics, cyborgs, aliens, and monsters. I'll be putting something together for a game at next year's convention, but if you're interested we can do something here as well; either in addition to or instead of what we're playing now.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.  I'm more than happy to press on with what we're currently doing if that's what we want; this isn't an attempt to sway you any which way.  I noticed that we stalled out a bit toward the end of the year, and I'm checking to make sure we still want to continue.

I'm quite disappointed that I wasn't able to join you guys at the Con. It would've been nice to see everyone.

This format works for me since we can't get together to play in person on a regular basis. I'm perfectly fine with playing 5E. For this format, simple rules are the best and 5E definitely fits the bill.

P.S. - Stupid notifications stopped working again...

Raising the glowing axe above his head, Gorbug grins a bit and brings it down on the creature's neck; removing the head entirely.  He then drops the conjured weapon and gathers the treasure he was able to collect.  "I have an idea on how I'd like to spend some of this silver.  Let's go find the exit."

Sythaeryn nods in agreement and falls in behind Gorbug.

Happy New Year!

This is your firendly reminder that Dundracon weekend is only a month and a half away!  I don't have a schedule time for the game I'm hosting yet; but when I get it I'll let you know.  What day works best for you guys?  I think Sherman mentioned Saturday?

I don't think I'll be able to make it for a live game that weekend.

Seeing the creature go limp, Sythaeryn says, "Let's get out of here before Melisandra's spell wears off." However, Sythaeryn is still on his guard for any other surprises that might occur.

With a quick wave of his hand, Sythaeryn mumbles "Sermo qui sanat" as a soft glow of light bathes Gorbug and closes some of his wounds. With another gesture and the utterance of "Radii tepefacta", another three bolts of white light streak towards the cat creature.

Melisander waves his left hand and concentrates intently as a glowing silver longsword materializes in his other hand. He walks over to the elf cleric and hands him the sword. "Use this."

"Give the weapon to Gorbug. He'll make better use of it than I", came the reply from Sythaeryn. Directing his attention to the cat creature, he again, intonates "Radii tepefacta" with a raised hand as another set of white bolts spring from his hand.

Sythaeryn follows the rest of the group away from combat but keeps a wary eye behind them should they be pursued.

The only issue I have with the ruling on the Phantasmal Force spell was how quickly the weretiger(?) was able to realize to use an investigation check. The way I think of illusions vs phantasms is that illusions are more like holograms like seeing Tupac perform at Coachella. Interacting with the illusion will give you immediate clues that something is amiss.

I consider a phantasm to be more of a hallucination, like something a schizophrenic would imagine. The hallucination is so strong that a schizophrenic would hurt someone or themselves if necessary to act accordingly with the hallucination. It's perceived as much more vivid and "real" to the person affected than an illusion, so much so that even in the spell description, the person will try to use logic to explain the illogical like falling off a bridge that's not really there.

If the situation was reversed and you had cast Phantasmal Force on one of us, you wouldn't expect us to immediately investigate the object/creature. It would require some prompting at least, most likely from a fellow party member telling us it wasn't real. I feel there would have to be some notion of doubt inserted into the situation first before an investigation check would be warranted. Since the weretiger was alone (I hope) and there had not been any prompting yet, I was hoping to get at least a round or two. Like, maybe, when he sees Gorbug walk right through the flames and try to whack him, he would think something was up. Because, I'm sure if some wizard cast a flaming cage around me, my immediate reaction wouldn't be "Hey, let me take a closer look at this fiery infernal of a prison."

That being said, you did roll with disadvantage and still were able to beat it on straight rolls. So it wasn't easy and you did roll well. Can't really complain about that.

On a slightly separate note, I'm finding illusions to be pretty fun. How come we never seemed to use them much in the past? Gnomes definitely know where the fun is. Half cup joke, full cup of awesome.

Illusions have always been a powerful spell option if you have the imagination for it. It's always been a pain to adjudicate because it requires both parties to be open minded about it.

Seeing Melisander's wounds, Sythaeryn points at the elf and whispers, "Sermo qui sanat". There is a slight glow surrounding the elf as some of his wounds are healed. Gesturing at the furry creature, Sythaeryn intonates, "Radii tepefacta" as three bolts of white light spring forth him his fingers towards its intended target.

So, I found a OneNote notebook on Reddit with the basic 5E rules. I've started keeping game notes in it, and I gotta say, props to Microsoft for making something other than Excel that is incredibly useful.

I basically have a 5e wiki that I can keep personal notes in, complete with screenshots, links, and searchable text.  I had the spell Melisander just cast at my fingertips for reference. It takes a while to set up, but I'm finding it well worth it.

Is this something that is a template that we can grab? If so, would you share the link? OneNote is incredibly useful but it requires you to use office. I use Evernote instead because of that and the facts that it's cross platform.

EDIT - I found the link - https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/3h9mep/dd_5e_one_note_edition_update_xpost_from_dndnext/

Does casting or standing up from prone provoke attacks of opportunity in 5th ed?

Could you also update the map when you get a chance? I would like to know whether the rest of the party is close enough to witness my death.

The rules are really simplified in 5E and you only provoke an attack of opportunity if you move out of the reach of a threatening creature. Standing up from prone shouldn't provoke but it does eat up your movement. Casting won't provoke either, however, if the spell in question has an attack roll associated with it, you have disadvantage on that roll.

Hearing the goblin's update, Sythaeryn calls out to Gorbug, "Do you see the cause of the noise?"
