"Some men just have weak minds through." he says while chewing on some duck. Looking at the group, (and mind-blanking where they were headed) "Are we staying here for the night or should we try to hit this ferry stop and question one of the people that seen it?"

Indeed, we should cover as much ground as possible before night falls.

Finishing her meal, Enar puts down her empty bowl and stands up.

I'm very grateful for your hospitality, but now we must hurry to this fisherman's village you spoke of. May the goddess bless you with a safe trip.

Gilfron and his son pack up as you do and you all go your separate ways.

You continue traveling for an hour or so, and as night falls a stiff wind that smells of rain whips up.  A high pitched yipping accompanied by a rustling in a roadside bush is the only warning you get before a wolf pup runs into the road ahead of you.  It is followed a heartbeat later by a second pup that tackles the first in the road.

The heartwarming roughhousing is broken by the sound of a deep and much louder growling from behind you.

Having taken the rear, Magiries nudges the horse around, wondering what animal is bold enough to pick a fight with all four of them mounted--and how easily it can be driven off.

Magiries sees a huge wolf, most likely a dire wolf, 15 feet away with hackles raised.  She realizes that this is most likely the mother of the wolf pups in the road.

I suppose that the rest of us will also turn around and see the wolf?

When he does, Aval tries to make himself non-threatening, and get out from between the wolf and her Cubs. (Presumably hers, at least). Ideally, we won't fight some giant wolf just for getting in her way. And if we, at least I don't want to be a target.

"Nice doggy...?" Magiries says, trying to manoeuvre the horse out of the way, hopefully with the others following suit and the horse not bolting. Fighting a giant wolf would be more trouble than it was worth.

Enar also slowly guides her mount out of the way between mom and kids while trying not to drool at the cute puppies.

Teferi debates on how tasty the wolf might be as he stares the mother down while he nudges his horse with his right knee. If mommy wolf thinks this will be a free meal then Teferi is going to be eating some tasty wolf veal.

You don't know who exactly is to blame, but the mother wolf has obviously decided that all of you did not get out of the way non-threateningly enough.

The growl intensifies and the horses become skittish.  Magiries and Barrin are able to keep their horses calm but Enar and Aval's horses rear up in panic.  Aval is able to stay in the saddle but Enar is thrown from her horse.

The pups are ten feet in front of Enar as she lays on the ground, their mother fifteen feet behind Magiries.  She looks ready to lunge.

Teferi was expecting the wolf to attack but didn't quite think Enar would be laying on the ground checking constellations at this hour. Spotting the wolf's attempt to lunge Teferi says "Here puppy puppy puppy." as he raises his arm and adds, " " and a large clear liquid-like drop-shaped blast flies from his outstretched hand to strike the mother wolf. Then he calmly guides his horse on the other side of his allies hoping to bait it into charging past them.

Aval's Owl swoops at the wolf, distracting it from his shot with his short bow, which shoots at the wolf

"Why are we attacking the wolf?" was the paladin's main thought. They were hardly a hunting party... wolves were just nastier dogs, weren't they? If they'd just left it alone then it would probably have been fine.

Oh well, she had no choice now but to push the horse forwards and attack.

It's just a a mother seeking to take care of their children... Enar didn't expect this to be her first opponent in this quest, and that made her hesitate with her sword slash.

The pups are terrified and run off into the bushes.

Ironically enough, their mother attacks Enar for despite the fact that she is the only one who has not wounded the wolf she is the only one actually on the ground.  Luckily for Enar the wolf is bleeding to death and doesn't seem to have the strength to land a bite.

The sun starts to touch the horizon at almost the same instant as Barrin's blast of arcane energy fells the wolf mother.  Her pups whine from the bushes and then run away from the party as fast as they can, knowing that they will to be killed if they do not.

The sky starts to darken, and from the directions you received from Gilfron you do not believe you will reach the ferry landing before full night.

Thinking about how the pups should be old enough to maybe survive on their own if they could run that fast (and knowing when to run from an hopeless situation), Enar slows down her horse and dismounts, preparing to start camp.

The darkness will bring darker things out of their hiding places. We should stop for today, and ride again at first light. I'll take first watch if nobody else minds.
