"No more of your foul magic, Dwarf.  Your betrayals are at an end." Einar declares as his blade swings again.

Einar's blade lops off a few of the dwarf's fingers as it cuts into his neck.  Litr's eyes turn glassy as his wounded hand stops searching for the item around his neck.  It doesn't take long for the fountaining spurt of blood to weaken to a mere dribble; a dark pool slowly spreads out from the treacherous dwarf's small body.

Bjartr's magical spear stabs at the corpse again for good measure before he thinks to dismiss it.  He calls Geirr back into the workshop, touches the wolf, and casts a healing spell on the both of them.  Their burns slowly begin to mend.  He starts to say something, but looking around at his companions, stops and approaches Agni, and heals the worst of his burns.  He then looks at Einar, says a word, and heals a small portion of the barbarian's burns as well.

Einar nods in thanks to Bjatr, then speaks a word to activate his belt which in turn heals most of his remaining burns.  He then turns to Thorgrim.  "That almost sounded like a curse, hopefully I slew him before it took effect."

Turning next to the girl Einar asks, "Are you alright?"  He has seen what the sight of battle can do to those unused to it, even if they themselves never participated in the fighting.

"Yes, I..." Moeid stutters, a wide-eyed look still painted on her face.  She looks around at the lot of you, most with singed clothing, then turns and abruptly vomits in the corner.  "Water, please," she coughs as she wipes her mouth with the back of her right hand, steadying herself against the wall with the other.

"Here you go dear." Skulda says as she pulls out her water skin. She also pulls out a wand and begins patching up the remaining wounds on herself and her companions.

"Yes... From the things the dwarf was saying, it was most likely some kind of curse directed at Thorgrim." Agni replies to Einar. "And thank you for the treatment. In case someone else needs some more healing, I can help."

Moeid swishes some water in her mouth, then steps over and spits it out on Litr's body.  It splashes, darkening spots on the stone floor, and some clay jars on a shelf below the tidy workbench.

Einar nods, then moves onto more practical matters.  "Well, the dwarf is dead.  Time to take what might be of use and make our way back to our own realm.  'We' also should probably let the giants know what transpired here."

To Bjartr, Skulda says "So... do you think you could remove the curse on the giant?"

"What may be of use..." Bjartr says.  "I may be able to help there."  He pulls a small wooden plaque from his belt pouch and casts a spell.  He looks over the scene of the dwarf's body for a few moments, then points.  "His ring, the necklace... all five items* we retrieved for him from the giant..."  He turns his vision to the door for a few more seconds; "The axe."  He then turns his vision to the shelves, absently saying "Would anyone else like to check the other rooms?"

He continues to scan the shelves, absently answering Skulda's question. "I wouldn't even be able to try until the morning..."

"Oh, OK... I don't think we can wait that long.

Yes, let's check the other rooms."

The back two rooms seem to be a bedroom as well as a kitchen and sitting room.  The kitchen area has several large stone basins that contain salted meats and various dried mushrooms.  Looking about the rooms with Detect Magic, one item sticks out; a metal flask on a shelf in the kitchen, roughly the size of your hand.  There are also a few small mundane barrels stacked in the corner, the top one with a tap inserted into its side.

"I bet the boys will like those." Skulda says with a chuckle, looking at the barrels. "Especially Hymir." She pockets the flask, and walks back out with Bjartr. "There are what look like barrels of ale in there, if you are interested in lugging them out of here. I think we should pack up quickly and decide what to do with the rest of this stuff later, unless some of you want to use it now. I don't want to be stuck in these caves for another month."

Bjartr indicates he also found the jar of ointment the dwarf had used on Moeid, as well as a feather, a small ceramic bead, and a small stone that has many reflective flecks throughout its surface, all magical.  "I agree, we should be on our way; it is hard to tell from here when dusk will occur."

"While the ale would be good, I don't think we should stay here any longer. Take whatever small things we can carry and let's get ready to depart. Also, do you guys mind if I check the mithral shirt?"

You all collect your things and leave the dwarf's home, heading back the way you had originally come.  You pick your way across the cavern, and find the tunnel from which you had come.  A few hundred yards down the passage you find the remains of the tanarukk you had slain the night before, resting where you had left them.

"Should we send a note to the giant telling him what happened, and apologizing for not lifting his curse? I can send it with the bird, so we don't have to risk missing our chance to return home."

"I don't mind. Also, this should avoid we getting some giant's curse on us... If they are capable of such."

Skulda laughs and says "You write the note, and I'll send it."

Bjartr pulls out a strip of paper and his calligraphy set, and prepares to write the giant runes.  "Just tell him the dwarf is dead, and sorry we are unable to lift your curse, but we must leave this realm soon?"

After hearing any amendments to the note, Bjartr sets to work, and in a few minutes he is sanding the ink on the strip of paper, rolling it up and handing it to Skulda.  Then he looks past the tanarukk bodies, down the tunnel from whence you had all originally come.  "Does anyone have any idea how far we came once we crossed over?  How will we know how far to go to wait for the pathway to open?"
