Title: Alternative Class Features Discussion
Post by: Jackinthegreen on February 22, 2013, 10:47:31 PM
As the title says, this is the discussion thread for http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=8732.0.  Credit to Dead_Weasel and all those who helped him with the gleemax version, of course.

If there is anything missing from it that isn't Dragon Mag, post about it here and I'll add it to the list.

If it is Dragon Mag, I might put it in the budding Dragon Mag section but I have a feeling that Dragon will require its own handbook eventually.  If it doesn't fit nicely in the current posts allotted for it then I'll split it off.

This post has all(?) the Dragon magazine ACFs.

Dang I wish that could be quoted.  I saved it as HTML and of course there's a whole lot of extra stuff to go through.  Thanks TiaC!  I'll see what I can do with it.

Edit:  I eventually just decided to make it a word document and copy the text over.  I'll make it a separate handbook though.

There's at least one thing I need to add from that thread that I don't have in mine, but I know of at least one thing in mine that isn't present in the other.  Funnily enough, both relate to Warforged monks.

If your willing, please double check it and make yours the better. I like yours better :)

Okay, I've gone through both and added the ones I was missing from Libertad's.  I've also added the list of online ACFs that Garryl made which Libertad added as well, and I'll clean up the formatting as I get around to it.  The links are in place and obvious though, so I'm not hurrying.

So far no guide has mentioned the Avenger (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20070401a) class though, so I've added it as a variant Assassin.

Here's a more current link to the Guide to Free D&D (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=513) for the online ACFs listing. You may also wish to add some things from the Adaptations Handbook (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=613).

You have Variant Fighting Styles for Monk twice.

Man, I was going to come in and link to the post above to make sure it doesn't get lost but looks like you guys already have eyes on it. Btw, I didn't originally note what the Moon-Warded Ranger does, but the Armor of the Senses (L2) substitution is wis->AC in light armor (I believe its the exact same as Swordsage's) insted of the combat style feat, the Skin of the Moon grants DR/2 at night (or DR/3 under direct moonlight) instead of improved combat style and Indomitable Mind grants immunity to all mind-altering ability (except for GOOD ones) instead of combat style mastery. Needless to say, I like the L2 and L10 ones quite a bit.

Also, as for completeness of ACFs from Dragon, I was rather... thorough. I could have missed some paragraph hiding somewhere, but I paged through all of them all page by page.

That said, what I didn't do was be very wordy about a lot of abilities or note page numbers. Just article name + issue.

I've added the Psychic Rogue to the rogue's ACF list.  While technically a different class, I felt it needed to be added since Psionic Assassin and the Avenger class were added too.

Not sure if this is also for the Adaptations Handbook, but I know of a few in Complete Scoundrel

Nope, I haven't touched any of the adaptations sections for the various classes.  That's a whole 'nother project.

I guess no discussion threat on that handbook. Oh well

There's no discussion thread for that handbook because I haven't made the handbook yet.

What pages are the Complete Scoundrel class adaptations on, by the way?

At least 2 of the skill trick 3lv PrCs have one. The Uncanny Trickster replaces its bonus skill tricks w bonus defensive feats.

its part of a infinite feat loophole (Legacy Champ + Uncanny Trickster advance each other infinitely until you choose to change what class they advance)

When you get to working on adaptations, this can get you started (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=613).

By the way, are you ever planning on cleaning up the Free D&D (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=8732.msg139328#msg139328) section? The current link to the minmaxboards version is http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=513. Or, for your convenience, you can just copy what's in the spoiler below.

I had forgotten about the Free D&D stuff.  I'll copy the coding you provided and put a link in to your full Free D&D page.

As far as adaptations go, thanks for the start.  I'll eventually have standard class adaptations as well as PrC adaptations and include notes similar to yours on whether they work as-is or need some tweaking to function.  You'll get credit, of course.

Heh, I might as well fix the Variant Class Feature Chaining bit.

There's an option in Oriental Adventures for a sorcerer to cast from the wu jen spell list instead of the sorcerer/wizard spell list.  The information is on page 30, near the end of the section on sorcerers.  It's a single sentence that isn't referenced elsewhere, as if the writers were playing a strange variant of Where's Waldo with the readers.

Added.  I remember seeing that while going through OA before, but didn't think to add it here.  I've looked through the Dragon 318 OA update and there's no mention of it, so it would seem that line in OA is the only place to find this info.

A warforged sorcerer can trade his familiar for the wand bonding feat (City of Stormreach, p119).  The option is given in text of the feat itself, but it's basically an alternative class feature.
