You don't really have a better idea of what you are doing, but I'll be damned if you don't feel damn lucky doing it.  You bring the bat straight down with all your might, right where the Beast isn't.

Or, rather, right where the Beast wasn't.  If only it hadn't moved at the last minute.  How lucky...

“Hast thou not felt in forest gloom, as gloaming falls on dark-some dells, when comes a whisper, hum and hiss; savage growling sounds a-near, dazzling flashes around thee flicker, whirring waxes and fills thine ears: has thou not felt then grisly horrors that grip thee and hold thee?”

The Bat comes down upon the Beasts head with a rather loud crack.  The massive dog staggers for a moment, and collapses into a pile of paper, which dissolves into nothing.

Standing where the Beast was is a man.  Not particularly old, not particularly young, and ordinary, almost mousy man.  He looks confused for a moment, then breaks up into motes of light, which fly off into the sky.  The constellation Gemini starts to glow.

The Newspaper howls in rage, and from its wide open mouth spills countless pages.

"June 30th!"

And the pages form into a ghostly figure, a bedraggled young female Spirit, who looks like she has been run over and torn apart.  The Spirit glares at you with evil eyes, leaking black tears, and rushes towards Serako.  You should probably defend yourself.

The Spirit's clawed hands swipe at Serako, but as she brings the Umbrella up to knock them away, the seals on the Umbrella flare into life.  A red barrier springs into existence between you and the Spirit, and the Spirit recoils in pain, visibly burned.

The barrier flickers out, and it is your turn, Serako.

Maybe not as palpable as I said it was!  That being said, the Spirit does not look happy with being hit by the thing that did all that burning, so I suppose it is okay.  Angelo, you're up.

"Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army while
  All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel'd from the sabre-stroke
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred."

Angelo brings the Bat around for another strike, and hits it out of the park.  You even hit legitimately this time.  Impressive!

Roll damage desu.

The Bat sinks deep into the Spirit, breaking through its otherworldly form.  It reforms, but doesn't look very happy at all.  It unleashes a horrid scream, and claws at Angelo.  Defend thyself.

To speed things up, lets all roll damage in the same post that we roll the attack.  If you don't hit, I won't deal any damage~

So roll damage, Serako.

As the Umbrella slices through the Spirit, it unleashes a final scream, and disintegrates into newspaper.

Lying on the ground where the Spirit was, is a man.  Scruffy and middle-aged, he stands up, shaking himself off as if confused.  The man divides into a glowing rod, which sinks into the ground.  The constellation Libra starts to glow.

The Newspaper's fury is such that it can bare speak.

"July 1st." it spits, and a circle of fox-mask wearing children materialized around you.

But something doesn't look right.  The children... are blurring.  As if they weren't entirely there.

"Sorry, not this time."

A woman is standing there.  Serako, you immediately recognize her as Alissa, the woman you saved from the foxes.  With the woman's appearance, the foxes vanish.

The glow of the constellations Gemini and Libra brightens, and Sagittarius lights up to match.  The unassuming man, Max Christophers, steps out of Gemini and walks towards you.  The middle-aged man, Randal Shaw, steps out of Libra and walks towards you.  Then the three break into motes of light, spiral around you, and vanish.

Angelo, you are healed of all damage.  Your Bat begins to glow with a golden light, matching the glow of the stars above.

Serako, you are healed of all damage.  Your Umbrella begins to glow with a golden light, matching the glow of the stars above.

The constellations Scorpio and Cancer begin to glow.
