So they were... fighting a humanoid lobster? Okay.

She could do that.

The scroll Julianne was carrying the entire time was unfurled in a single dramatic moment into a ribbon of rainbow light, a trio of flowers of coloured energy appearing around her, black cores pulsing ominously within them. Simultaneously, she shifted into a far more combat ready position, visibly surprisingly prepared to fight for a wizard. Also, highly visible, violet flames flickering over her body.

And then a blinding column of light engulfed the lobster lady, a second spell cast.

Julianne was also now 200' in the air, looking down at everyone and wondering if the spell did anything. The flowers had arranged themselves in the air around the others, hovering over the battlefield.

"Julianne Blue. I'd say I'm primarily a philosopher?"

"More relevantly, you're a wizard."

"... oh, if I die, don't worry about the tanks. Just pick me and my stuff up." Julianne said, apparently overcoming crowd of strangers that were also gods induced stage fright now that practical matters were concerned. "It should fix itself given a few hours."

Julianne sank back into the water with a blush... well, it was probably a blush; being blue it was a bit hard to tell, but there was still some sort of colour change. Much easier to tell than for the dog, for instance. Not that she was taking eyes off of her friend's wiling assistance with the corset.

"I would say that I smell good enough naturally, wouldn't you? Besides, it would just wash off too quickly." She wasn't entirely wrong, if you didn't mind the faint smell of the sea. Perhaps it was part of being a nature spirit.

"Isn't that uncomfortable?"

"Mostly around strangers. You get used to it." Of course, being alluring could bypass that, but it did come with its own set of problems.

"It's easier just to write down what you want to say..." At least she was half out of the water now. Although, water was really the preferable place to be, so there was no real hurry to get out.

Julianne, previously considering engaging in the offered gambling, drops herself into the water at the sound of yet more people arriving, eyes peering over the edge of the fountain curiously and blinking a few times. Oh, it was only the alicorn and one more thing. That... wasn't too bad? This room was getting awfully full of strangers, though.

Chalcea just sighed as the water splashed over her.

Revealing a swimsuit only makes the staring more obvious, even if Julianne's gaze was far more prone to embarrassed wandering and looking over at the strange, floaty figure. But, well, it was invisible, so maybe it didn't want to be noticed? She could understand that feeling quite well; no need to embarrass them and ask about it.

"I speak... uh, everything? I'm sure there's a whole bunch of dialectal differences I don't know, or various pidgin languages, but when it comes to major world languages and the various languages of the planes, I've made an effort to learn it. Or anything else that seemed useful. Except secret languages, druids are just mean, but I guess that's where magic comes in, but that's just cheating and no good for understanding."

"I am a nymph," Chalcea pointed out, as if that should explain everything. Well, it probably did. Half of it. "Julianne simply lacks self-control."

Julianne weighed up the odds in her head. Not that she was sure of any unusual rules that this pirate might be using, but she was fairly sure that this was a game where a fixed banker was guaranteed to make money in the long term. On the other hand, since they would be playing for only pennies...

"No, that sounds far more interesting." Chalcea said, a coquettish smile on her face. She also took being drenched by the dog's passing entirely in stride, though, like Julianne, it wasn't as if she wanted to avoid getting wet in the first place.

"Oh, at least Draconic has vowels and is intended to be spoken by mortal throats without too much difficulty. I have a theory that it might trace a lot of its vocabulary back to Ignan, but it's terribly difficult to track down sufficiently old and involved elementals to ask them, and the plane of fire is the one I least enjoy the idea of spending much time on," Julianne said, drifting towards Bomredo and at least temporarily lured away from the prospect of cards by an opportunity to talk about her primary hobby.

The thing gurgling in the water rolled over in apprehension at the sound of someone coming over, only to blink a few times before levitating herself out of the water and into a thoughtful seated position. Swapping to match Chalcea's use of Sylvan, she says "I didn't know there were going to be pretty girls here. Even small ones..."

"You're not wrong, but this is definitely an unusual look."

The two appeared to do more looking than talking for a long second, before Chalcea abruptly swapped to Common. "I'm Chalcea, and this is Julianne Blue. Mage, linguist, philosopher; I'm mostly her editor. She's really not as bad as her reputation makes out." Though quite how so many places had gotten the idea that she'd outright start feeding people to demons or the like was mystifying.

"... dice would be better." Julianne added, drips steadily falling back into the fountain to repeat the point.

The fountain was unusually occupied, for a fountain, considering the wide variety of far more interesting places that one might think to find in a mansion. Occupied in both the figurative sense of having someone seated on its edge, occasionally looking back at the water flowing down, and the very literal sense of having someone else floating face-down in the water. Not that she was at all inconvenienced by this immersion, continuing to hold a conversation with her seated partner through the water. Not in common, though, Julianne's portion of the conversation was conducted entirely in Aquan... which did make some sense, again given her current position.

"Why did I agree to this... we're going to have to do so much talking and meeting new people..."

"You mean I'm going to have to do a lot of talking." At least Chalcea was speaking in Sylvan.

"Do Solars have problems improvising? It would seem like eight or more of them should be enough to address most problems, but I never had the opportunity to ask. I tried asking a Deva some questions, once, but they didn't like me for some reason. It's not like I wanted to do anything but talk, and a calling spell isn't a forced conjuration, so I don't really know what was with answering the call and then getting irritated... maybe I should have had some sort of task in mind and asked questions while they worked? Angels are good with their hands, right?"

"No, no questions. Are there already people here?"

... Surface-to-Air missiles, huh? That would be an interesting test. She'd tested the building's structural integrity quite thoroughly, and it held up well against massed spellfire. Even repeated, prolonged bombardment hadn't done anything. On the flip side, they got through an inordinate number of broken windows one way or the other; it was hard to say how a missile would fall between the two extremes. Probably best not to test it with anyone else inside, though; there was always the chance that it failed to detonate on impact with the wall and instead punched through before exploding...

"Well, as long as they don't get in fights with the residents..." Julianne said, playing with a lock of hair. Chalcea had drained her tea and dropped off the roof to deliver the map--and instructions. "Is it more of an abjuration against missiles specifically, or any projectile, or shooting things down first?"

Before Stellar Magnet could answer, there was a shout from the entryway, and the nymph was once again airlifted up to the roof. "I gave them instructions to set off once the escort arrives. I don't think there's a risk of any angels being attacked... unless it was a lone hound archon, but those aren't known for their flying capabilities."

It also seemed that she'd made sure to pick up the mage's nearly-forgotten belongings. And her own weapon, looking strangely at odds with the habit and the gleaming armour that could be glimpsed beneath.

"Well, it sounds like we're needed there more than here..." Julianne says after another pause, drinking her own tea. Mixing tea and chocolate? Well, there were definitely weirder combinations, but one might expect some more biscuit involved in that mixture. For her part, of course, the idea that any populace could be too far gone made no sense; if you could redeem a literal demon, then any random person off the street should be doable. But rather like waiting for someone to stop bleeding when you cut the throat, there might not be time in the normal human lifespan for it. "It's not like I've got anything better to do this year."

"The name of this city?" If they were going to be supplied with some other means of transport, they might as well get this place moving off in advance. Flight aside, most of its inhabitants would probably find a drug-and-mob overrun city a bit more familiar than this cheery seaside resort...

"Um... one moment, I'll be right back..." the elf said, dropping off the roof and entering the building through a window. A minute awkwardly passed before she floated back, hoisting what appeared to be a somewhat-confused nun and depositing her in front of Stellar Magnet.

... hopefully that name wasn't literal. It would be rather concerning if a star were to crash through the ceiling.

It was Chalcea that wound up asking the first question, Julianne very pointedly fishing a bar of chocolate out of her pocket and nibbling away at that instead of looking in his direction. "You said the gods want Julianne for a mission? Forgive me if this seems offensive, but... we're concerned that this is a punishment in disguise. If you could just soothe our minds a little...? Oh, and I'll have some tea, if you have another cup."

That was the big concern, here. They weren't a major religious presence in any sense of the word but more established groups certainly took offence to Julianne's ideas. That someone might escalate it to the gods themselves seemed ludicrous, but you never knew.

... how and why an alicorn was behind her when she was sitting on the roof was an interesting question, Julianne thought, looking back over her shoulder. Nearly as interesting as how it could even begin to pronounce the sentence it had just said; horses really didn't have the vocal structures required to form languages that had originated with humanoid bodies in mind. Or vaguely humanoid. There also wasn't the excuse that most outsiders generally had of being formed of non-elemental substances. Maybe it was something like dragons? There had to be magic at work in the ability of giant reptiles weighing dozens of tons and with even less fleshy mouths to hold perfectly ordinary conversations. They definitely couldn't be here to sign up... for one, the notion of needing to overcome one's physically-enforced moral challenges would hardly be appropriate. And secondly, all the flyers handed out and the sign by the door said to go find Chalcea first; she was good with people.

The magician floated to her feet and spun to face her visitor, promptly resuming a seated position... this time on the air itself. Magic was neat. "Um... I... guess? I prefer the rain, but... sea storms might be bad for land-dwellers..."

... did this count as entertaining a guest? Was she supposed to offer refreshments? They were outside, though.
