A reformed, bloodthirsty character
« on: May 08, 2012, 10:42:17 AM »
An Evil character, who was a merciless, cruel, ruthless, killing machine in the past (and was like that from very young age), but now has been reformed and lives a normal life.
What quirks, habits or mannerisms could he still have from his "Evil killer" times while being Good or Neutral aligned?
This here is what inspired this question.

Magic is for weaklings.

Alucard: "*snif snif* Huh? Suddenly it reeks of hypocrisy in here. Oh, if it isn't the Catholic Church. And what's this? No little Timmy glued to your crotch. Progress!"

Here are a few tips:

-Holding a dagger in hand in a throwing stance, even if he isn't going to throw it. Playing with said dagger also counts.
-When talking with someone, the ex-assassin's eyes ends up looking at vital parts to strike with unconsciously - while talking.

Being slightly (but not too much) too brutal or aggressive when it isn't necessary would be one. Showing that you are trying to resist the temptation to just kill everyone in sight.

Paranoia. People in general assume that others think more or less like they do. It would be hard to get over the feeling that others are likely to betray or murder you if it will benefit them, if for most of your life you would have done the same to them.

Of course, this will likely conflict with the character's reformed ideals. So he may instinctively distrust others and be a bit paranoid, but consciously choose not to act on such suspicions.

I second paranoia. This could go as far as taking measures to wake up quickly, even in a group, as well as being self-sufficient as far as food and supplies for fear of poison, etc.

A tendency to kill the dying out of habit, even secretly so the party can't see, so he will not need to take time or supplies nursing them as prisoners. Being okay with torture, perhaps relishing it too much.

Maybe a tendency to give awkward and gruesome metaphors in normal conversation?

Supplies mean more than people.Security means more than happiness. This would mean that staying in a party would be a constant struggle, but perhaps being cared for and accepted means a lot to them and encourages them to try harder to be good.

3.5 is disappointingly flawed.
