Title: Famous Optimized Character Builds
Post by: phaedrusxy on August 17, 2016, 03:40:04 PM
I was so happy to have found this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?258580-Famous-optimized-character-builds)...

Meh to the link, so have a tl;dr take on the builds that dropped their dated optimization attempts with a bunch cynicism to reinflate the post back up to more than two paragraphs.

(click to show/hide)
I might get around to the second half later, it's a lot of clicking to double check these things, and recrunch the first bit into a better bare essentials this weekend.

Minor question, anyone have a collection of red mage pixel art?

I started to read the first response but then I stopped. at the first few. Exemplar does say "an exemplar can use her skill artistry to improve the attitude of NPCs" and "replace the diplomacy check with a check using the chosen skill". There is no converse logical flaw here. You clearly are making a diplomacy check and doing so with jump / profession(spelunking). Such a willy-nilly dismissal of all the above builds is odd considering the nature of the underlying criticism (they they didn't read the RAW close enough). Maybe I'll read through the others if you care to give more honest criticism.

@spoiler#2 Those entries need links to avoid digging
: soro spends five paragraphs ranting about the paladin as he tries to tell you how great fist of raziel and ordained champion can be.
Whoa... so meta. Oh wait, this could apply to too much. Broken clock and all that ... if 90% of it was taken up by one number

major variants can be treated as a new class, bloodline levels are applied to monk, sidewinder monk, chaotic monk, & wild monk for +50% more monk per monk.
except you shouldn't and BL shouldn't work that way either. Even if they did, you'd have way more broken applications than monk.

You should probably have finished the one you're complaining about before posting.

The critique wasn't about making a Diplomacy check in place of a Jump check but adding Jump's bonuses to your Diplomacy Check. It's like claiming that if you throw a crossbow you add both your Dexterity and Strength to the attack and damage rolls because you're using a ranged weapon as a throwable one.

except you shouldn't and BL shouldn't work that way either. Even if they did, you'd have way more broken applications than monk.
I agree on shouldn't but BL does apply to any Class calculations, for example in the purposes of calculating your Wild Shape it'd be Wild Monk + 3.

What you are thinking of is how Chaotic Monk obviously does not apply to Wild Monk's calculations since they are treating as separate Classes but why on earth do you think I'd claim that? It's a pun about how each of the Classes contains the word "Monk".

Darkwing Duck
tl;dr: it casts more spells than a Sorcerer, reduces the need to guess what's ahead, and is a knock-off of everyone's favorite DC character Batman.

What the Jumplomancer does is uses a Jump Check in place of a Diplomacy Check  That's what Exemplar lets you do: substitute any other skill for Diplomacy.  Jump just happens to be the easiest to get absurd bonuses on due to movement speed factoring in as well as everything else.

It never adds the two.

I apparently had that backwards then, my insomnia was running a little high a week or two ago.

Also do we really need a new build every time someone brings up an Epic Spell? A 20th level Cleric using... Wait no I got an idea...

No church inquisitor? It's so easy, early entry, and gives lots of goodies including detect evil at will, a paladin staple.

Fantastic picture btw. ;)

Yeah Zone of Truth is only 2nd level...

It presents a few considerations for tweaking which I have an idea of, I'll repatch it tomorrow.

Risky
tl;dr: it's a 6th level build that on average can kill a explodes-when-killed Balor using a melee weapon.

Theoreticals can go lower but they are less of an optimized build and more of here is what you can exploit with gold or Pazuzu. Just remember, if you can stat it we can find a way to kill, trap, or enslave it.

Would the character build i based the psionic immortality trick off of qualify, i wonder?

on reflection, probably not, as it's not so much the build as it is a clever arrangement of stuff that any psion could pull off with psy ref.

Pfft, go a head and post it. Someone decided a high CL with Blasphemy or observing the PHB's Slight of Hand's Free Action check is a "famous optimized build".
