Ultimate Forces Thread 1

The Magus is a broad-faced woman in rich navy robes, hiding a livid scar beneath a jeweled eyepatch.  A raven squawks quietly in the corner, amid the dozens of plants which turn her spacious office into an indoor jungle.

As the last of you enters, she holds up a finger for silence.  She then spends several long minutes murmuring and tinkering with a contraption of lead, glass, and cloth which rests upon the desk.  Finally she sighs, and steps back.

"We can speak, now, without being overheard.  As you are all aware, I am Magus Steotha." Her voice is warm and smooth, carrying a slight accent.  "We are gathered here to organize a team in the Games.  Of course, we wish to win them, but I feel that it is important for us to acknowledge that there is another motive."

She looks at each of you in turn.  "We need to bring down the Church."

The warrior in aberrantly silvery armor with lion motifs seemed taken aback by the statement. It was clear that his eyes betrayed a complete inablity to hide his joy at the idea despite his best efforts (which admittedly were terribly lacking in this regard).

Thus, his enthusiasm curbed at the possible idea of a trap (but only barely bubbling beneath the surface), he was the first to demonstrate skepticism. Not out of a genuine desire to question his patron's would-be motives, but more because if these were true, he wanted to get to the bottom of the discussion as soon as possible so he could get started.

"A very dangerous proposition, miss! Many before have tried and failed. Many have been tempted into doing so only to fall into the Church's clutches, and suffer unspeakable torment at the hands of its inquisitors. So I would have you offer proof of your alleged plan before anything else is said on this matter!"

He was clearly overeager. But at least he wasn't completely stupid.

The draconic warforged clad in mechanical armor stands straight, chest out, shoulders back, wings folded. He doesn't flinch at her proposal, but faces the warrior as he speaks and turns back to the magus, awaiting her response.
I appreciate the logical, cool-headed responses and the lack of profanity displayed by our community.

An otherworldly young woman, hauntingly beautiful, with the strange, lace-like ears that mark her as a child of the Ohrwurm, smiles innocently at the Magus' declaration, but remains silent.

There is a long pause before the man in imposing, intricate armor, resembling a samurai's armor, speaks up. The voice rumbles from within the armor, though it has a sort of hollow characteristic to it.

"Magus Steotha, my mentor spoke highly of you. It is no surprise to me why he recommended that I meet with you. I have personal reasons for harboring a loathing of the Church, but I must admit, I wonder what has drawn these others." At this, the man turns his head to look at the others gathered in the room.

Almost unnoticed in a corner of the room stands a nondescript halfling (short, round face, dirty blond hair) wearing a long cloak with the hood drawn back. He doesn't move from his position and speaks as if to himself.

"I want to make this city a better place. The church is in my way."

Without moving, as he surveys everyone in the room, Rrektor confidently says, "My name is Rrektor, the Redeemed, Acolyte in the Brotherhood of Redemption. I am here to win the games for the Brotherhood to bring glory to all that is good and shine light onto all that is darkness. If my name is of such importantance to you, then surely you would waste no time to hear an announcement as great as that Magus Steotha is making."

The red-haired girl with the lacy ears points at the halfling, winks, and gives a "thumbs-up" signal.

Then she moves towards Rrektor, so gracefully that it is almost like she's gliding and dancing at the same time, instead of walking. As she stops in front of him, she bows and opens her palm, revealing a small flame, which she cups her other hand behind to make an improvised lantern, and shines into a dark corner of the room, illuminating it.

Evidently she agrees with them both.

The girl blushes and curtseys to the halfling, and then replies with a few quick hand and body gestures of her own.

"Well met. Leo Joutaro of the Brotherhood of Redemption." The knightly man turns and bows deeply and exaggerately in response.

When faced during a greeting, Rrektor does a Korean-style half bow where all four of his wings fan out slightly.

The man in the samurai-like armor remains silent for another moment, but then follows suit and introduces himself, though his introduction remains brief.

"That's a very bold ambition, Magna Steotha." Out of the exotic menagerie called for the games, he was perhaps the most unassuming. A portly, weatherworn carpenter in traveller's gear, known as Mr. Vert to the people he brought food to on the street.

One of many identities. But here, for now, the entity in that guise decided her comrades-in-arms deserved to see what only the brotherhoood's higher orders knew about her. The carpenter's figure blurred into a that of a lithe female's, the traveller's gear turned to a celestial courtier's dress, and white wings unfurled out of her back. Somewhat more menacing were the shining silver longsword and bow at her side.

"My apologies. Alone among you here today, my very nature is heresy to the church. I am Shaniel." she says with an easy smile. "I too, have sided with the brotherhood. I hope our travels are blessed ones."

Rektor, with a tone of surety, says, "The understanding of the beings in this age is darkened by sin. Unspeakable evils lurk about and corrupt the mind of the common man. Much can be done to reverse evil's effect and the Brotherhood conquering the games is a good place to begin, at least in Gratis."

He pauses, and, sounding all at once burdened yet hopeful, continues, "My goal in the games is to win by such a margin and with such a clear devotion to Good, that onlookers will be inspired to turn from the trajectory that their evil lives is taking them on. I want to make much of the Good that drives me and communicate to all of Gratis that now is the time for goodwill and sharing among the creatures of this city and of this world. For this is the message of the Brotherhood, that no creature's sin is too great for them to turn away from. They need only make the choice."

Rektor would sense a grown man's hand on his shoulder. Looking back, he would see Joutaro's expression marred by a single tear. Said tear has the magical property of growing chest hair on anything except its owner's face.

"Excellent speech, Brother. I could not have said it better myself, and it gladdens my heart to see someone take the mission of the Brotherhood so deeply into his soul!

And it may just happen that we run into VILLAINS and EVILDOERS during the Tournament as well! Let us strive to show them the path of LIGHT and RIGHTEOUSNESS! We shall break their spirits and BUILD THEM ANEW WITH PASSIONATE LOVE OF JUSTICE THAT WE SHARE!!

TOGETHER WE SHALL MAKE THEM ALL SEE THE ONLY PATH A TRUE MAN CAN TAKE!!!"

At the end of his own speech, Joutaro is pointing upwards with a spotlight shining down on his head and a smile filled with sparkles. There's also a wispy, flame-like aura erupting from his body as he speaks. If one bothered to look up they'd say the starry sky and a shooting star.

In his imagination, of course.
