Regular Rogue or Martial Rogue?
« on: October 20, 2016, 07:06:27 PM »
Let me explain. See I've been looking at both sides of this and wondered what would make more sense as a 1-2 level dip.
At first glance it seems obvious. Martial rogue gives you 1-2 bonus feats perfect for meeting prereqs for certain classes, and the regular just gives you a sneak attack die that likely will not scale. So yeah no brainer right?

The problem comes when the craven feat is on the table, having bonus damage to sneak attack that not only scales with your character level, but can also crit due to it being a flat bonus.

So in the grand scheme of things which is more important  or more useful the sneak attack damage or the bonus feats?

If your build needs feats, then feats.

This.  Then again, there's always Sneak Attack Fighter confusing things.

It doesn't help the rogue much either thantheir defining class feature, sneak attack, can be entirely emulated with items and spells too.

You can make a pretty dang good SA rogue without even being a rogue.

Yeah, i guess more feats are always your better choice, especially in this instance.

I think it involves Swordsage?

Two feats instead of Swordsage?  A ranger spell?  Prestige classes?  Kledvazu polymorph?

Swashbuckler 3/ Sneak Attack Fighter 3/ Feat Rogue 14 (not necessarily in that order though) with the feat Daring Outlaw.
This would net you 11d6 sneak attack, 8 bonus feats, and 16 BAB.
However, you'll need a DM who will allow this to work.
