Ultimate Fun with Emancipated Spawn
« on: August 28, 2012, 10:58:33 PM »
Alright, here is how this works:

1. Start off with any adventurer you please.
2. Have a wight come over and kill them with Negative levels. Let the adventurer rise as a Wight.
3. Kill the 1st Wight. The adventurer starts taking levels in Emancipated Spawn.
4. Everyone go YAY! Cast any spell that changes type on them. Find a Spectre; have the Spectre turn the non-Undead Wight into Spawn.
5. Kill the Spectre. The adventurer again takes 3 levels in Emancipated Spawn. He now has all the special qualities and special attacks (thanks to how the 3rd level of Emancipated Spawn works) of a Wight, a Spectre, and his original form.
...
N. After repeating this process a bajillion times with different spawn-making Undead, you literally have all the abilities of all of the Spawn-creating undead that have ever been published. This includes such gems as immunity to positive energy effects (a Visage gets this; it doesn't include Turning, but since you get a boost to Turn Resistance of at LEAST +6 for every time you have gone through this cycle...), a negative level inflicting song, and a bunch of spell-like abilities. Plus, since you can level a bit every time you become a Spawn, you could go through a cycle of:

Low HD spawning monster/Class levels X/Emancipated Spawn 3

To get most of the class features in the game.

Pick a final Undead with good HD and ability scores (eh, it might be nice if the starting character had a bunch of their stat increases from class features, so that they map over to the undead monstrosity you end up with), and enjoy your ECL OMFG character!

Nope! I figured this thing out when I noticed that there wasn't a note anywhere saying that Undead can't become spawn; the type change is to allow them to die from Negative levels.

I was going to say you can't take the class multiple times... But I guess at the time you take it... You don't actually have the previous levels in the class.

That's awesome.

This trick was used with one of the "brothers" in the old "The Wish and the Word" entry by Frank and K in the "siblings contest" on the old WotC CO boards. Except that they also combined it with a Thought Bottle and permanently lost levels, or something, so you wound up keeping all of the abilities, but not the actual hit dice.

Yeah, but this actually just sets your HD to [last monster in chain]+3; you do get the best BAB and saves out of any of your incarnations, though...

And this is actually distinct from the trick they used for the Wish and the Word; there, they only use 2 levels of Emancipated Spawn, because all they care about is Caster Level (ES 2 let's you grab the class features of one class; if it was that you were a Spellcaster, you can cast one spell of each level they could cast before etc etc.), whereas the way I do it here will grab you all the class features of every class ever published, given enough time.

... and there were some very be-yotchy No's toward The Word.

This one is comparatively simple.  Spawn = yes.  Then Loop.

... It has all of the abilities of all spawn-creating undead. You can Resurrect or True R. a willing undead back to being alive. Due to the way this works, E-spawn wouldn't lose the racial abilities.

Take creature that is awesome.
Do this to make it more awesome.
Rape it with Dirgesong combo.
Profit.

I need to think of a catchy name for this...

I got nothin'; all that's playing through my head right now is "I touch you for 20 negative levels, and all the ability damage and drain."

Actually...

I know what really should be part of the initial build... Soul Eater 10.

Doesn't work due to humanoid type requirements. Even adding that RoD feat creates a schrodinger's problem where the DM could say "you started to transform, but you lost your feats, so it failed and you just plain died."

Doesn't Greater Humanoid Essence (I think that's the name?) change your type to Humanoid?

Otherwise... Wish? I think a Wish would do it.

could you use this for... let's say... inf lvl 1 spells/inf sneak attack damage, ... inf feats?(well class feats) etc, etc, etc.

Going level-by-level, how powerful is this compared to, say, a full Wizard or Druid of equal 'level'/HD?
