Breathing a sigh of relief that they actually share a language, Saul says "You may find this hard to believe, but we're from another world. We know nothing of any of the things you just mentioned, except we saw some raptoran nests in the trees on our way in, and a creature we spoke with in the forest said they were hostile.

We're actually hoping to make some allies on this world, so that we can learn about it, and how we might fit in here."

Smile beautiful. It's not as bad as you think.
I usually post from my phone. Please excuse any typos. I swear, they're the phone's fault.

"Whatever he's sayin', I hope it's friendly." Milo says to no one in particular after he remembers that he doesn't speak Dwarven.

Lazaro pays close attention to the conversation but lets Saul remain the face, or at least the voice, of the party.

"Another world?  What proof have you of this?  Why should we believe you're not just slaves of the dragon, here to do his mischief?"

"Our ship crashed from the sky about a kilometer from here. I would be happy to take you there to let you see it for yourself. If that doesn't convince you, probably nothing will... I know nothing of this dragon you speak of, but it sounds like I should."

"Let us trek to this ship that crashed from the sky of yours.  Then we shall see what manner people you are, regardless of whether your forms are unknown to us.  Truth and dishonesty are not unknown to any.  I am called Olgier.  The curly-headed one is Margier.  The other is Fridigier."

Saul, feeling very pleased at how things are going so far says "Well met Olgier, Margier, and Fridigier. I am Saul, and my companions are Makala, Dakekk, Darius, Milo, and Lazaro." As he calls their names, he points at his companions. Then in common he introduces the dwarves to his friends, explaining that they want to see the crash site to confirm Saul's explanation that they are from another world and do not serve any of the enemies of the dwarves.

As they walk, he says "So Olgier, tell me of your world. I see that there is much heat near the surface, and that even the stream above is so hot as to be painful to us. Are volcanic eruptions common? Or is this heat fairly stable? We seek a safe place to build a village for our people."

At the mention of his name, Milo smiles and waves a hand. He looks at Saul and says, "Not for nothin', but I feel a tad left out here." Then in Goblin he says, "Good day to you!"

"Sorry about that. I'll translate everything as best I can." Saul replies to Milo.

Oglier leads all of you back out of the cave, then gestures for one of you to lead the way as he falls in beside Saul, walking quickly to keep up.  Margier and Fridigier fall in at the rear, almost as if keeping guard.  "Volcanic eruptions?  Never in our clan memory, back through twenty lives of dur Authalar - our name for our people.  I believe the Killoren call us "wild dwarves"; either will do.

"Safe places for your village could be troublesome.  The Killoren are not especially belligerent, but they have it in their heads that they are the guardians of all growing things, so we find it easier to either build from stone or below-grounds, or barter with them for timber.  The Raptorans are . . . I believe the word is 'xenophobes.'  Any who walk upright on land are hunted by them, though as enemies, or for sport, I know not.  They patrol as they see fit at nightfall and daybreak.  This is our other incentive for tunnelling under, while the Killoren have chosen a nocturnal life.  If you must build, either parlay with the Killoren, or work the land itself, and find some way of hiding or disguising your dwellings from the Raptoran marauders."

Saul leads the way back towards the crash site, taking cues from the more woods-worthy as needed to keep on track. He translates what Oglier has said to those among his group that need it and then replies "Thank you Oglier. You have given us more knowledge of this world's peoples than we had collectively among us already, I believe. Now what of this dragon you spoke of? What sort of threat is he? An open one, like the Raptorans, or a more insidious one? From what you said earlier when you first encountered us, I fear it is the latter."

"Heh, these trees are like a new pair of breeches. Difficult to get used to." Milo says as he tries to navigate the woods.

Saul sends a message ahead via his psicrystal to ask Josiah to make sure no one starts cutting trees, and to ask around if anyone has any idea of how we could hide everyone around dusk.
