so, here is my first try. Is it a good base, or should I scrap all this and try again ? I stayed closer to the bat before trying to anthropomorphize more the drawing...

Not bad for a base, at least on the bat parts. Definitely needs to be more humanoid though. That also means arms. End the wings a little higher, more towards the waist. Oddly enough, the best example for that I can think of right now is a stick-figure comic.

Scrap the legs though. He doesn't need to hang upside-down; he'll mostly be either flying or walking upright. The head is great (needs smaller ears though; I just gave you that bat for the general shape), but the facial expression is... well, it's not
him. It's not bad on its own, but I definitely don't see it on the character. Make him look happy if you want, but a content grin or something would be more appropriate.
Also, and I'm sorry but I have to say it: he looks like he's wearing a straight-jacket.
