I take out a single cigarette, then light up.  As the smoke curls lazily around us, I look up at the moon, waiting for midnight to come.
“Hast thou not felt in forest gloom, as gloaming falls on dark-some dells, when comes a whisper, hum and hiss; savage growling sounds a-near, dazzling flashes around thee flicker, whirring waxes and fills thine ears: has thou not felt then grisly horrors that grip thee and hold thee?”

[[BGM]]

The pale white smoke from the cigarette slowly, lazily floats into the sky.  As the smoke curls higher and higher, even the oppressive summer heat seems to fade.  A wisp of smoke passes by the moon, and the stars seem to fade, leaving behind a sky like a black mirror, empty save for the white smoke making a lazy arabesque around the moon.

As the smoke beings to fade, a new whiteness fills the sky.  Twelve stars -- no -- twelve glowing constellations, reaching end to end to form a ring around the horizon.  The lights of the city fade: the windows of the buildings, the spotlights, the billboards, and even the faint street lights, leaving you in darkness lit only by the stars.

The world around you fades, the ground, the trees, the gates to the park, the path, the leaves, everything, until the world is as dark as the sky once was.  And then a ring appears, wrapping around the two of you and this darklit world.  The ring of stars that makes up the constellation Ophiuchus.

The Hands of the Clock strike 12:00 and move no more.

Another figure can be seen on the opposite side of Ophiuchus's ring.  A slender female figure, made of the pages of a newspaper.  Her yellow irises are set into black eyes; her mouth is twisted into a mocking sneer; she steps over the ring of stars, and speaks a single phrase:

"June 29th"

Before the words even make it all the way out of her mouth there is a sound like a torrent of rustling newspapers, and a massive black dog appears.

Battle is met.  Serako, I believe you go first.

Serako opens the umbrella and attempts to keep herself inside it's protection, watching to ensure that the spell works on this creature.

Neither the Newspaper nor the Beast it summoned seem to have any trouble seeing you.

The reason for this is pretty clear upon looking at the umbrella.  The seal that normally lies on the inside of the umbrella isn't there anymore.  Instead, a large number of seals are wrapped around the umbrella's handle.  A pity that you didn't check until now~

Angelo, your time has come.

I glare at the beast and its paper master.

"Half a league, half a league,
  Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
  Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns' he said:
Into the valley of Death
  Rode the six hundred."

With those words, I step in front of Serako and take an All-Out Defense (Increased Defense) action.

The massive dog growls menacingly, and charges at Angelo.  It would probably be a good idea to dodge.

The dogs teeth sink into your arm, dealing 4 points of damage.  It really is quite large, when you look at it close up like this.  Very very large.

Serako!  Your turn!

I suppose if you need to you could also use it as a bludgeoning weapon, but I doubt its that strong.

Serako gulps and thrusts with all her might at the wolf's face.  hoping to poke his eyes or something while he is biting Angelo.

No idea what to do with this, so, ST 10, DX 10, I'm aiming for 10

Not only is your aim true, the massive dog fails to get out of the way in time!  The umbrella strikes the Beast's head with a surprisingly solid thwack.  Please roll Thrust + 2 Damage.

Man, look at all that damage.  The Beast recoils, letting go of Angelo, but doesn't seem otherwise fazed.

Angelo, you are up next.

Inspiring as your speech is, you aren't.

The Beast turns towards Serako and lunges at her.  But perhaps the Office Lady's attack did more damage than it appeared to, as the Beast misses.

Serako, go.

You almost hit, but don't.

As you pull the umbrella back and regain your stance, a strange blue smoke swirls around you and Angelo.  The smoke seems to be coming from a pipe.  And the pipe seems to be held by a rather familiar female figure.

A young woman with a fox mask is reclining on a piece of the sky nearby, smoking a long-stemmed pipe.  It is the fox-woman who lead you out of Moongate park that one time...  She takes the pipe out of her mouth a blows a ring of blue smoke at the two of you.

"You two look like you could use some help."  She chuckles.  "Well, good luck~" and vanishes.  The smoke settles into you and... Huh, you actually feel pretty good.  Really good, in fact.  Serako, this feels better than the time you touched that Pojiwhatsit.

Angelo and Serako get a +8 bonus on non-damage Rolls.

"Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
  Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
  Rode the six hundred."
