Gelugons, also known as Ice Devils, are large devils adept at summoning and leading hell's troops with cold tactics, not hesitating to sacrifice their minions for the success of their missions. They're mighty warriors on their own right, fighting with spears imbued by frost and their tails, both which slow down their victims with numbing cold. A Gelugon's bite is also dangerous. They can also use limited ut powerful magic, such as flight, cone of cold, ice storm, greater teleport, persistent image, unholy aura and wall of ice. To stand near a Gelugon is to risk falling to fear and running away. But if your courage stands, they'll scare you no more that day. They're resistant to magic and have the usual devil characteristics. Another thing to take in account when facing this opponent is that Gelugons regenerate from all wounds except those inflicted by good aligned weapons and spells. Even then their scales will deflect any weapons not both good and crafted of silver. They can summon lemures, bearded devils and bone devils as reinforcements. If somehow disarmed or forced into close quarters, the Gelugon's claws are extremely sharp.
Second in the army ranks of Hell only to Pit Fiends is the Cornugon, also known as Horned Devil. They're the elite of the elite among devils, the equivalent of a honor guards if there was any honor in hell. They're tasked with guarding critically important places and beings, or as front shock troops for key battles, receiving direct orders from Pit Fiends or the dukes of the nine themselves.
Fast for their large size, and even stronger, they fight with long spiked chains, teeth and tail, the last of which inflicts infernal wounds that keep bleeding until a Heal spell or treatment by a masterfully skilled healer is provided. Such is their might and ferocity that their chain blows can stun damaged victims. They can unleash mystic forces such as Dispel Chaos, Dispel Good, magic circle against good, greater teleport, persistent image, fireball and lighting bolt. Cornugons have a fear aura like Gelugons, shorter range but more powerful. Also like a Gelugon, a Cornugon's flesh will regenerate against non-good attacks and only good weapons forged from silver will be able to effectively pierce their tick scales. They can summon lemures, bearded devils and barbed devils to their aid. Or even another Cornugon if it risks failing its mission and being demoted, although the new horned devil cannot then call another of their ranks.
Despite their common name of Horned Devil, a Cornugorn's horns seem to be purely decorative and have no special properties, not even being any effective for combat.
The scouts also report however some details that point that the cornugon and gelugons guarding the portal may be exemplar specimens. The gelugon's ice magics appeared to be stronger than usual, and the Cornugon's physical prowess was such that it could daze undead, stopping them in their tracks.
