Title: Group Music Player for Online Games
Post by: Fredgerd on January 16, 2018, 01:12:29 PM
I'm looking for a way to play atmospheric music for players in an online game. What I need is something that multiple people can be logged in on where I can control changing between a variety of playlists, depending on the current happenings of the game. A playlist for calm, foreboding, combat, etc. Anyone know of a good web tool for this?

Hmmm, other than tying a livestream under your control in as a participant of a group voicechat, the only tool I've seen that sorta does something like this is CrystalBall Lite. It can automatically share certain types of files (such as sound bytes) and trigger it to play on everyone's machine simultaneously via a scripted button.

However, that would be one more software to acquire and share and have running along with whatever else you have going on. Plus, learning curve. (not high, but still, there is one.)

That would seem somewhat simpler. Perhaps have a portable speaker and mic so you can manually set the distance.

Ya, I don't know of a way to switch between prebuilt playlists on discord though. I might take a look at crystal ball, see if I can figure it out.

The FAQ is invaluable in understanding how CBL works. it is rather well written.

the scripting function is absolutely amazing, you can practically automate an entire adventure with it if one took the time to do so.

It seems crystalballsoft is being decomissioned and the software is no longer being supported.

Hopefully I'll get it figured out without the FAQ, we'll see.

I've used it before, and it's WONDERFUL. It's a shame it's a subscription-based product now though, because it even has support for FantasyGrounds triggers, so you can make individual actions you link up in advance trigger sounds.
