"Aren't you coming to check the place as well, Saul? I don't know, but even if we don't have to fight, having your silver tongue around may help with the locals, should we meet them. Let's give the people rough instructions for while we are out, then prepare to explore the area."

Makala goes to where the Reachers and the Marchers that came with her are and tell them to help those in charge of treating the wounded, make makeshift litter to carry those who can't walk, and protect the perimeter of the crash site.

One of the humans approaches Saul as he finishes his speech.  He reaches to shake Saul's hand, and pulls him in to speak privately.

"I'm Josiah, a blacksmith; we talked a bit on the Zeppelin, you recall.  As you're taking it upon yourself to speak to us all, the other Humans and I have some concerns, though their resolution can probably wait for water and shelter.  First, that pilot was the most accomplished engineer among us, if his talk and the ship's manifest are right, which means building more advanced shelter and devices than a lean-to could get tricky on a large scale.  Second, the dead minotaur and the hobgoblin were allegedly to be sheriff and deputy of this little colony, which leaves another big void - or a potential one, anyway.  Lastly, the manifest says there were over two-score Changelings among us, and, while the headcount seems right overall, first check leaves us more than twenty-five Changelings shy."

Lazaro keeps near Saul but remains quiet watching the interactions around him.  He has no interest in being involved in this growing power structure here, but behind behind of that power structure appeals to him.

Saul listens to the man quietly while maintaining eye contact to show he's taking him seriously, and then says "Thank you very much for bringing these things to my attention, Josiah. I agree with you that we should decide what to do about them, but that perhaps we should wait till we have secured water and shelter. Perhaps we can discuss them tonight, after we've set up a temporary camp, around the light of a bonfire.

For now, I think I will go with the scouting team to check out this potential water source and campsite. They may need my skills in communication, if they encounter some of the native inhabitants of this world. We will return as quickly as possible, though. Perhaps you could begin readying everyone to move and set up camp after we return?"

Milo looks to Makala and says,"Do we know how long anyone was unconscious after the crash?"

He then looks at Dakekk and asks the goblin if he saw anything from his vantage point in the trees.

"I was out of it from the crash and was more focused on climbing down than anything else. Here, give me a minute and I'll take a look." Dakekk walked over to the nearest tall tree that stuck up out of the canopy and started to climb, looking around as he did so.

Once Josiah walks off, Lazaro addresses Saul.  "I might be able to help with identifying the Changelings if we decide that is a priority."

Saul shakes the man's hand and says "Thanks... Lazaro, wasn't it? I doubt it is anything to be too worried about. They're not called Changelings for nothing." and chuckles a bit. "They're probably just hiding themselves amongst the others as they're wont to do. That's pretty low on the priority list, I think.

Though if you've talents such as that, perhaps you could accompany us in investigating this river... and the stairs leading down into the earth nearby it?"

Lazaro returns the handshake and smiles warmly.  "Lazaro at your service.  I will gladly accompany in you, investigation is one area of my expertise."

Josiah nods his understanding at Saul's commentary and instructions for communicating with the psicrystal.  Toosa'inya is looking after those who bore the brunt of the injuries in the crash with characteristically crusty charm, tsking at them about being more careful in the future as she patches them up.

All those who have volunteered to go check out the creek and the staircase head east.  Once out of the clearing, you can make out some muted chirping and animal noises (Knowledge: Nature checks are appropriate) amongst the widely-spaced evergreens.  Approximately fifty meters in, a slight change in the natural cacophony around you makes the hair on the back of your necks stand up a bit.

Marching order and Listen checks, please.

Saul would definitely position himself in the middle, as he has no illusions of withstanding much of a physical assault, but would suggest that they spread out a bit (maybe 10' spaces between each of them) to avoid area effects while walking.

Listen (1d20+2=13)

Lazaro would also have been in the middle or middle-rear, his main weapon is his bow and he prefers to stay out of melee whenever possible.

Listen check: 1d20+7 = 12

Knowledge Nature: 1d20+2 = 10

Milo's brow furrows as the group sally's forth.
