Hey, yeah.
It's quite fabulous. We discussed it around here, when it first came out.

Link on the first post (I've no idea if that wiki got it word-for-word).
It's better than wish, 'cause you can cast (!) another 9 and learn more 9s on your own.
Whole multi-year series of Unearthed Arcana.
Crafting?
Most people seem quite unhappy with how stupid proof + simple it is.
3.5e had a make anything interpretation of the Artificer
and the MIC had an almost wishlist option (nigh universally ignored).
4e followed this lead with wishlist and 1 ritual crafting = near automatic.
So as unrewarding as 5e crafting is fluffed not at all ... it does work.
And you'll still be grumpy about it.
