After giving the other constables directions you get to your house without incident, though dark is beginning to fall.  Feel free to question away.
"How did you come to know Barnes? How did you learn about the prisoner? What has been happening in Philadelphia?"

Before speaking he pulls an odd looking lens set into a monocle and peers at the both of you through it, particularly Elizabeth.

"Barnes has taught you some things,  that might be good.  I know Barnes because he and I had the same teacher, the thing that sets in your cells at this very moment.  The Seal he resides in is designed to block his powers, and he cannot leave it unless it is destroyed, but anything moving inside it is vulnerable.  Philadelphia is under siege by ... things.  Not so obviously under siege that we have to inform the populace just yet, but close.  No ships that leave the sight of land have returned, and we're running low on powder.  The Indians have largely fled into hiding, and outlying farms are gone or left empty."

"We were attacked by some colossal beast, which killed Barnes. I tracked it to a farm a ways from here, and managed to get a look at it and collect a sample of its ichor. I was hoping to banish it, but I am not sure I am strong enough. I fear we would not survive a fire fight with it.

After that, we were attacked by human-looking beasts that eat people and attack under cover of darkness in the storm. Two families were attacked, so I had everyone from outlying buildings brought into town, and had no one travel alone. That all happened last night."

"That presents a problem.  We need to quickly rid ourselves of both, before either of them frees the prisoner accidentaly."

"Do you feel the banishing is prudent? I have to others to help me with it, but I need some people to help keep watch. Is this something you could aid in?"

"It is, but the fire required will mean we need to do it outside, which leaves us open to attack if unguarded.  And if we are guarded then we need to explai our witchcraft to the people before they burn us."

Elizabeth smirks.

"Do you have any other ideas how to confront this thing? Do you want to go see it?"

Elizabeth suggests working with their new companion and the doctor. Lionel can gather some constables to help keep guard.

"I still don't see why we can't stab the things until they stop moving." Lionel muttered to himself, taking a drink from a canteen.  "I'd say we take out those cannibals first.  Small.  Human.  Been more recently active.  The other thing sounds little more than a wild beast to me."

Yes. It's listed as "herbs/minerals".

Okay you set up and begin the rituaal, and believe it or not it's successful as an image of the injured beast appears.

And it is truly awful.  Far worse than you were able to make out when it was in the darkness of the barn.

Willpwoer saves plz

Lionel watched the others form their little magical deal here.  He was paying more attention than normal, muttering to himself, and scribbling something in his notepad.  In truth he was writing this all down, even the seals being drawn.  He wanted to compare him to his Uncle's research.  If this worked, then his Uncle was less mad than he assumed.  And that was dreadful.

And then it happened.  A foul miasma rose, and images began to flicker in front of him.

"What.... what is that?"

You both lose this much San, now all you have to do is not break the circle.  At which point you hear gunfire from the direction of teh church.  You know if you leave the circle the creature will manifest physically, but you also know the entire towns firepower with the exception of you is at the church.

It eventually fades from view and everyone gains 10 San.   Also everyone participating takes 1 point of ability damage of their choosing, and Robby lost a certain amount of san/hum depending on his ranks in the spell.
