considering a project (need math assist)
« on: March 11, 2013, 05:14:51 PM »
i have a project, for fun  :bigeyes

i want to populate a CAD using an articulated arm. these things exist already, but i want to build one for under a million bucks.

each section of the arm gets a tilt/acceleration sensor that reports x,y,x (i think i need 5 for a four segment arm, but can use more)

take the articulated segments, with a known min and max reach distance,

if i have done this right...

i take arm segments a, b and angle C and do sqrt((a*a)+(b*b)-(2*a*b*COS(c))) to get segment c?

then sum the c's together and i should have the length of the arm.

fat lot of good that does me...

but add some calibration points off of the arm and you should have it?

so what am i missing?
