Q1: Has anyone done any conversions or refitting of non-5E modules or adventures paths to work in 5th edition? Problems? Advice?

Q2: I'm going to be running (as DM) the 3E War of the Burning Sky Adventure Path and was considering using 5E rule set since my group really, really, likes 5E. Do you folks think this would do-able? Not worth the effort? Thoughts?

Thanks,
Necrosnizzle

The 2 official modules for NEXT
from just before the 5e release,
have the 3e + 4e + Next monsters
stats all together.  iirc
this was a wotc online pdf, free too.
(not the adventure module itself)

So the conversion from Next to 5e
might be about as simple as it'd get.

I swear we discussed them around
here somewhere, including links,
but my google-fu rolled a nat 1.

(1) I can find this guide?

(2) Is the official module 3rd-4th-5th edtion monster conversions that you are referring to found in this listing by chance?

(3) Found this converter, thoughts?

Thanks,
Necro

still not google-fu-ing it, but did find these from pre-PHB '14.

#1 is about as good as it gets, officially .
Shoe-horning everything 4e into 20 levels, is supposed to work too.

#2 no (at least not what I was referring to, which I still can't find)
#3 don't know yet I try it some, idk.

I converted the 3rd Freeport adventure from 3.5 tot 5E. Scaled it up a bit too. The nice thing about monsters is that you don't haven to play by the same rules as PCs do. Although most 3.5 fans find that abhorrent. It makes your job easier though. Most 3.5 feat combo's and abilities translate neatly into 5e actions. It does take some getting used to.

Start with the tables in the DMG. You need the XP table on p.82 to get an XP budget per monster. Use the table on p.275 to translate XP to CR. Then you refer to the table on p. 274 to get the basic abilities for each monster. You can fiddle with these numbers. Shift some stats up and some down, use the original monster as inspiration, and end up with the same CR. This is a bit of hit and miss, especially in the beginning. Most abilities don't influence the CR of a monster. For exceptions see the table on p.280.

If you like monster building it can be a lot of fun. And when you get the hang of it, it is much easier than in 3.5 where you had your feat allotment and whatnot to worry about.

If it is your thing, Angry has written some articles about monster building in 5e. They're very informative although at times longwinded. He does dissect the monster building process pretty thoroughly.

Monster building 101, 201, 202 and 202b

Edit bonus: boss monsters (solo's)

http://www.dmsguild.com/ ... has a section 3rd from the top
called :  "Newest Dungeons & Dragons."

They've got the pile of 4e/Next adventures there.
Some are free, some have 3e+5e stats too.
idk haven't reviewed any, but I think that's the stash.

edit --- overlap with Sjappo , +1 on that.
