Nanshork's System Reviews
« on: July 06, 2020, 01:36:15 PM »
I own (and read) a whole lot of different RPG systems.  It was brought to my attention that because of this, people wanted to know what my opinions of different systems are.  So I wrote up some system reviews and they weren't poorly received so this is a thing now (at least for now).

I review things from a mechanics perspective and with an eye towards helping people figure out if they want to own the system or not.  Because of this my reviews are a little different from everyone else's.

Reviews
Abandon All Hope
Alien: The Roleplaying Game
Amber Diceless Roleplaying Game
Cyberpunk Red
DIE: The Roleplaying Game
Lancer
Mork Borg
Mistborn Adventure Game
Pathfinder: Second Edition
Prime Directive Modern
Savage Pathfinder / Pathfinder for Savage Worlds
Slasher Flick
Star Trek Adventures
Starfinder (An introduction and not actually a review, just a comparison of Starfinder vs 3.5/PF)
The Company
Warbirds

Feel free to comment/ask questions in the review threads themselves.  I also take requests and you can ask for those here (or ask questions or whatnot).

Amber, the Diceless RPG?

The DragonStar RPG setting?

How about Synnibarr? (snicker)

If you want me to review things, you need to give me links.

Also they need to be things that you're actually interested in me reviewing.  Not whatever weird stuff happens to be out there.  It's not like I don't already have a backlog.

Fair enough, no Synnibarr then. (actually, if you did review that, you'd probably hate me....)

What kind of links exactly are you needing then? I'm interested in your views.

A link to an official product page or a Wikipedia page about the game would do. That way I know that I'm reviewing the proper product since sometimes there are multiple versions or games with similar names.

I'm not actively looking for work so I think I'll be avoiding Synnibarr.   :P

I'll only be loking at the base product pages of the other two, I especially don't want to read other people's thoughts on anything I might review.  I don't know when I'll get to them though, the next few review slots are filled (like I said, I've got a backlog).

lol. Yeah, diceless isn't for everyone, not to mention the minor problem of having no baseline comparison to work with, or the "all your universes are belong to us" sub-theme.... I'll go read your review now.

Since you did Star Trek Adventures, I request that you do a review of the Prime Directive RPG (not the same as Star Trek adventures, and yes it is an officially licensed Star Trek RPG).

http://www.federationcommander.com/prime_directive.shtml
https://www.starfleetstore.com/roleplaying-c-90/?zenid=sbi5umvvot73bpvnqbk9433uk4

Compatible with GURPS, 3.5, and d20 Modern.

Any particular version since the compatibility is that they made separate books for each system?

Whatever your preference is. =D

I play all three systems and am familiar with them all, so I am comfortable with letting you pick.

Review done.

You keep asking me to review things that I think are bad.   :P

I have no problem with you thinking they are bad. It's not like I'm a fan either, lol. I read about it, sounds interesting, but my massive reading list means that it would take me forever to get around to reading it myself, but lo and behold! My friend Nanshork actually does system reviews! Huzzah! Let's see what Nanshork thinks!

... that sorta thing. 😁

I think I'll just move to reviewing stuff that I know I like and you can just play those games.  :P
