"Kong. Can you push or drag that rock away? Or smash it?"

(click to show/hide)

Kurt shakes his... body.. as if to say no.

"That isn't good. When exploring a dangerous place, it is best to try and find the exits first, before trying to explore the areas in-between. Especially with how dangerous this forest has proved, and with it going to get more dangerous latter. The path forward seems more likely to be the way out. Once we check that, then we could come back."

Kurt looks to Rabbit. Kurt knew that Rabbit seemed to be the smartest of them, and Kurt had tried to sound a bit like him, but wasn't sure if his suggestion would meet with Rabbits approval.

Pha isn't sure about the blue ball's point. There was the risk of forgetting about the place. That and about just how dangerous the forest had proven to be so far.
"It has?"

She squinted, trying to make herself more persuasive.
"My kind has a fondness for closed spaces and it usually leads to us being cut off from the rest of the land. This boulder could be blocking the path to a fairy fountain."

Pha then pouted, already accepting that she might have to forget about it for the moment.
"If we're not bursting it off, might as well keep going."

You keep following the open path, and soon enough some stone tiles start appearing on the ground beneath you. At your sides, broken boulders partially covered by moss and tree roots suggest the ruins of ancient buildings, and the tree walls open up, leting you actually spot stuff more than a few feet ahead of you. In front of you appears a small hill, at its base a small, old-looking stone fortress, trees and vines growing all over it, that would seem abandoned at first glance if not for some green-clothed figures siting around in a campfire. The forest fortress is merged in the side of the hill and seems to go inside it.

As you aproach you see the green-clothed figures are uniformed hylurian soldiers, that notice you back. Their hands rest in the hilts of their weapons and they assume a defensive stance but they don't make any gesture to attack. One of them, with its slightly decorated uniform sugesting a minor officer status, shouts to you:

Halt! Who goes there? Entry on the forest temple is strictly forbidden!

Jeremy looks around, taking in the view.  As they are challenged by the guards he can't help himself and asks, "Is it a fairy temple?"

Rabbit took a step forward, "Explorer 45J-4, personal designation Rabbit, on detatchment from the Galactic Federation. We were sent in this direction by Captain Viscen of the port access village of Molima to the southeast."

Rabbit's posture is calm. Of course, it only took a microsecond to unsheath his battle scythe.

Jeremy looks around, taking in the view.  As they are challenged by the guards he can't help himself and asks, "Is it a fairy temple?"

The officer looks at Jeremy with a condescending look on his face.

No, it is a monster temple kid. Evil things lurk inside, and that's why we watch over it to make sure they don't get out and passing innocents don't wander in to their demises.

Rabbit took a step forward, "Explorer 45J-4, personal designation Rabbit, on detatchment from the Galactic Federation. We were sent in this direction by Captain Viscen of the port access village of Molima to the southeast."

The officer's eyes change to a more defensive stance when he takes a closer look at Rabbit's armor.

Galactic Federation...? Well, wherever you're from, I don't know what the captain had in mind sending you here, but entry in the forest temple is strictly forbidden unless you have a permission letter or the Captain himself comes here and tells me to let you pass. You're however free to explore the exterior ruins around here. There's quite a bit of ancient arquitecture left over under the vegetation, with the ocasional stone writings and sculpted pieces of art if you're in that sort of thing. Sometimes we still find the occasional hidden treasure in this area, so you may get lucky and it'll make your trip  worthwhile.

Kong eyes the temple, a glint in his eye. This would be exactly the sort of place he could find martial tools and techniques, if anything the old kong's had told him, if any  of the stories he had heard as a small chimp were true. He knew he would have to get inside the temple, but he didn't want to hurt the men who were just there to protect folk...

"We can explore. Fine." There might be something outside the temple. Or a way in...

Zax sticks to the back, knowing that his input won't help anything, but he glares at the guards.  "Typical..." he mutters, loud enough for everyone (including the guards) to hear, but too quiet for anyone to respond to.

Pha's surprise made her drop backward before flying back unto her feet.
"...a WHAT? Monster temple!? How dare you!! It used to be such a... nice establishment."

Her worldly memory was still quite hazy, so exactly when it used to be so was pretty hard to recall. Probably quite some time.
She put on a serious face. It looked dreadfully serious.
"Any road. I've got a great fairy fountain to find but I can't let evil lurk in there if I can do somethin' about it. There are some terrors defiling temples and doing goddesses know what in there and they come in the big numbers. You guys'll just get slaughtered if they ever reach this place. So. I'mma go in. Find what they're looking for and figure out what could be done to avoid another possible massacre like what almost happened at Molima. And you'll happily let us do just that."

The guards step away with a mixture of shame and fear on their face when confronted with the dreadfully serious faery. Their looks quickly change from Pha to the officer (who's visibly shaking) and back to Pha.

I-If... B-But... You-you... FINE! Go inside, get lost or killed or worst, see if I care! Clearly I can't stop you, but I won't be holded responsible for whatever happens to you inside that cursed place!

Then he looks back at Jeremy:

Look kid, I don't know what charm that mischievous fey promised you or you who got involved in all of this, but there's no need for you to go inside with them. Just say the word, and I'll send some of my men to escort you safely back to Molima.

Meanwhile the exploration in the nearby area doesn't produce much of interest-the place has clearly been troughly explored and looted multiple times, altough you still manage to gather some more rupees and some interesting pieces of text, along with several fragmented depictions of gods, goddesses, monsters, heroes and triangles whitin triangles.

Then those of you choosing to enter the fortress to reach the Forest Temple go in.

Jeremy summons Ivysaur and then smiles up at the guard as he pat's his Pokémon on the side.  "Don't worry mister, I know what I'm doing.  My friends will protect me."  The Pokémon then looks into the guard's eyes and softly says, "Ivysaur" in a somewhat menacing voice.

As they travel into the temple Ivysaur stays close to Jeremy, keeping a watchful eye out for anything that might threaten the child.

The found lore was interesting. Ancestral knowledge, maybe and a taste of the spiritual theme adopted by the temple.
Of it all, the bit about four worlds was the most intriguing. Enough to express her puzzlement. "...four worlds?"
There wasn't much point thinking about it too hard for now. For as far as she knew, it could be a metaphor of some kind.

The guards' reaction saddened her slightly. It was tough to see the good folks tremble and inspiring terror wasn't always pleasant. It was usually swinging wildly between intense fear and awe. She looked less than monstrous, but it wasn't so hard to understand Rabbit and feel like a monster herself at times.
"Of course you care. But it is for the best."

She made a short bow and floated down toward the temple.
It was hard to focus on anything else that was directly in front of her but the occasional swirling dusts caught her attention, letting her wonder when it may have been since someone last ventured there. Not less than a few years, she guessed. Whatever menace lurked these holy grounds should had been purged long ago.

Kurt couldn't follow all of what was being said as he searched through the area, but he could gather that the temple was full of dangerous creatures.

These guards were trying to keep the dangerous creatures in, and innocents out. But Pha wanted to go in, and root out the baddies so they wouldn't be a danger anymore.

"Yep, sticking with these people will surely teach me how to be a proper hero! This Pha is so insistent that the dangers be dealt with! And if we can manage to do so, then these people won't have to worry about it anymore!"

And so, Kurt follows Pha into the temple.

Impressive. It was odd seeing all of his old commanders and divisions present in his new companions. Pha could intimidate as well as any Elite, while Kong could certainly fight like one. Jeremy wrangled monsters and creatures as well as Fauna Exploitation.
Kurt was a living mass of protoplasm. Rabbit had to admit to himself, that was a new one.

What literature they found, he cataloged for future reading. If nothing else, it'd be while he was alone in the early mornings. Keeping his eyes open as he entered the temple... minus his vestigial eyes of course, he pulled a sweep of the perimeter, and a more casual glance around the region as well. His mounted X-Ray visor helped him see the tiny imperfections in the stone, while the Ing-Inspired Dark Visor ensured there'd be no dark spots in his vision. Now, if only he paid attention in the GF's brush up course of locating areas of interest...

Kong honestly couldn't have given a damn about stories - he was always more for practical knowledge than book-learning - but the mention of the triforce interested and stuck with him. A power that no single individual could use? The power of the gods? The strength of gods? Even a fragment of such power, such knowledge, might aid him greatly. And if the temple held such power, if it were even a chance... that was something he could not pass up...

Kong gathered himself, and walked passed the guards. He would be damned if a boy, faery, "rabbit", or..... um..... thing, beat him into the temple.

You hear creaking sounds, and as you take a closer look around, you realize what looked at first glance like clumps of vines and moss  walls are skeletons! As they move, the vegetation that had grown over them falls off and they ready their swords and shields, their eye orbits glowing with a ghostly emerald light.

(click to show/hide)

From behind one of the trees, a larger skeleton reveals itself. Its armor, sword and shield are clearly of superior quality and its eye orbits burn crimson.

(click to show/hide)

Still some of you hear some faint giggling coming from the room, but the skeletons are completely silent. It takes Kong's keen eye to discover the source-two small floating balls of dark purple light with insect wings.

(click to show/hide)
Noticing they've been spotted, they float a couple feet up and speak in a childish, half-singing voice:

Oh, the big ape saw us little sis!
I'm more interested on the green lad miss!
What about that armored creep?
I'll rather play with the cute kid!
The blue ball looks good enough to eat!
Hey big sis, you're the one that brought us this fresh meat?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

As the pair of faeries laugh the stalfos advance, ready for battle.

"Dark faeries... what are these?" Kong considered the intelligence of walking straight into the temple, but hindsight was rarely initially worthwhile. This was the time for action. He readied himself, and eyed the larger of the warriors. A good challenge; but would it be more prompt to beat down the smaller foes quickly?

So it seemed.
But it felt like something had gotten to them. Perhaps whatever evil dwelled here had power enough to corrupt even her kind.
...or maybe they were wicked to begin with, which would really suck because she didn't want to hurt them. There was hopefully a way to deal with this without having to send them back memories of the earth for goddesses knew how long a sleep.

Perhaps the skelly warriors were controlled by the dark fae, which made them the most important thing to deal with in the room. Right now.
She wanted to blame them for letting the place fall into ruins, but she couldn't. Working wasn't really part of the standard fae's lifestyle.
"NOPE! They're guests!"

She sneered gleefully.
"Are you two ice fairies?"

The two dark faeries start fading from view as they keep their mocking song:

You hit your head somewhere big sis? You don't remember this pair?
You don't remember the rules about guiding mortals to our lair?

And then they're gone from view, altough you can still hear the faint sound of crystalline wings flying trough the room.

Meanwhile the large stalfos suddenly speaks:
Dead or not, you're still temple guard! Fulfill your duty and kill the intruders!

The smaller stalfos seem to experience a burst of energy then, five charging against the party's frontline of Kong and Rabbit. Not only their swords slash away at incredible speed, they also skillfully coordinate their attacks with each other while forming a disciplined shield wall. One of the stalfos stays just behind their ranked brethern, not saying a word yet clearly backing them up, knocking their skulls with the flat side of its blade to correct their errors and fix slight mistakes in their positioning.

Three stalfos form up a second rank between the tree and the last positions itself at the door, while the large stalfos leaps into the air and comes crashing down, burrowing right trough the earth! You first feel the ground tremble in your front, then below you and then the large stalfos emerges at your back.

This is a sacred temple. No entry. No escape.
-emotionlessly states the undead as it performs a wide slash with its sword aimed at the back of the party. Zax manages to duck and block, but Pha is cut cleanly by the (not cold) iron blade.
