OK so we know "everything" got saved in the wayback,

And with multiple board changeovers / whitescreens ...

D&D 5e / What feats from 3e or 4e, are powerful enough to convert ?

And with as little modifications as possible (and not just because I'm lazy).


For instance:

4e Ritual caster feat --- would be weaker than the 5e version, except for guaranteeing the higher level rituals, and lets say some of the 4e rituals too.  Disenchant is slightly better than the Selling Magic Items mini game.  Become a Lich or a Vampire = who doesn't want that. etc

or

3e Chameleon Crafting from Dr#349 --- so long as you craft an item, with a helper, you could use an Off list item of the helpers class.  Kinda a restricted Rogue Thief 13 UMD.   1.5x cost multiple is decent.  Needs refining.


Ideas?

Board Business / weird posting problem on my end

Hey.
This happened over at wotc too.

I've got a window, and a second window.
I start to write a post
click over to the 2nd window
copy
click back to the 1st window
paste
Then I get this:
The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message.

Try it a bunch of different ways, but it keeps happening.
Never had this problem before, using to windows for a post.
I know it's something I'm doing, but I don't know (at all) what it is.
Just had a Firefox update, so it might be connected.

D&D 5e / Paladin 2 / Full Caster 18 + spellpoints

Just thought of this.
You can find the spellpoints chart in the DMG.

Basically points > slots from level 3 to 18, on a full caster.
Excepting Land Druid 3, Wizard 3 and Wizard 18.
So that's a giant pile of level 1 slot equivalents
to dump into using 2d8 Smite all day long.

It's possible Paladin 11 / Full Caster 9 is still useful doing this.
Certainly the casting is just barely better, and
the total slots equivalent is obviously better.

Any ideas on how to use this amount of Smite spam ?!

Too early, but it's a reasonable thing to wonder about.
(edit --- the not-entirely-not-serious earliest line, was 5 Valor Bards, say back around summer)

Wizard Necromancy
Wizard Conjuration
Cleric or Druid , depending on campaign , Lore Bard is individually stronger but doesn't have access to the larger list
Radar ... the more recent one Barb 6 / Chain'Lock 11 / Sorc 3
var Human Rogue Thief 13 / X ... haven't figured this one out yet


I figure this doesn't look like a typical party so something like:

Wiz Necro or Conj, but pick some of the other
Cleric or Druid ... all about the list
with 2 of the next 3
Paladin something ... for close quarters combat support
Half Elf with Charisma class
Radar ... can get drifty after the basics
+ var Human Rogue Thief 13 / Y ... details idk details

WBL does have some more stuff to work out, but that guy is a good start.
a) ... average distribution of monsters from 1-20 levels
b) ... the ~walking around money per monster is easy , but then a*b
c) ... guesstimate distribution about how many how much magic items edit see enworld link below = good start on it
d) ... the selling magic items table is an easy enough calculation, I'll do it soon, maybe tonight edit DONE see below
e) ... some rough in guideline for crafting
f) ... some pre-rough in guideline for what items you'd really or mandatorily (!) want , 'course this is standard wotc C.O. work edit see Nunku's thread = good start

Selling Magic Items ... there's 6 paragraphs for it.

Gateway 1) ... have to find a City or dmfiat
1a ... ho hum lets go to the "market" today, again

Gateway 2) ... Investigation DC 20 check for each magic item ; dm ought to keep this secret
2a ... Rogue 11 with Cha 14, Prof, Expertise = dc 20

Gateway 3) ... bonus to d100 roll with Persuasion DC X for each magic item ; dm ought to keep this secret , Improves(!) the numbers below
3a ... Rogue 11 / X 5 with Cha 20, Prof, Expertise = dc 27 before extra dice roll buffs get added

Gateway 4) ... average amount below cost for sale
4a Common ................. 66%
4b Uncommon ............. 52%
4c Rare ......................... 38%
4d Very Rare ................ 29%
4e Legendary + Artifact sales require adventure or quest, with no guidelines (dmfiat)

Gateway 5) ... flat chance that a +25% cost "Shady" is available

Gateway 6) ... Shady results may (dmfiat) cause Legal Problems

So it's a minigame with side adventures, maybe 50% is a random median guesstimate for magic item sales.
Interesting that that's how it shakes out.
My 1st glance opinion , is to sell Uncommons and Rares for more crafting material as necessary.
Gygaxian DM sense, is you can choose to Not Sell, but "S"omebodies know you have the goods, and might be mad or have connections.

D&D 5e / Radar , but needs a helper

I was checking out the 5e really long ranges.
A few things stood out.

Barb 6 Eagle is >> Clairvoyance, with vision out to 1 mile as if 100 feet.
Warlock 2 Devil's Sight is >> Drow darkvision, with see in magic darkness out to 120 feet.
OK combine those 2.

I'm forgetting who pointed out the Observant feat. (I failed the check?)
Comprehend Languages level 1 spell/ritual, to combine with that.
Perhaps via Magical Training feat.

Fighter BM 7 is >> level 5 Divs, and more repeatable.
Especially useful is the knowing the hit points of a bbeg, for a Power Word X user.

But stretching it even further, is to go Warlock 5 for the Familiar upgrade.
Now you just need someone else (!) to Teleport it around your plane of existence.
At this point you've got a "q"uaker "h"indu divine spark of 3e DvR 1 Remote Sensing !

Barb 6 / Warlock 2 / Fighter 7 / Warlock +3 ... is a trainwreck of a build.
Kiting might be the only real possible combat role here.
Spell Sniper feat on Eldritch Blasts with a 600 foot range.
Otherwise you'd be using and losing too many arrows.
Possibly add in speed increasers here, to run away and keep kiting.
Dex Con Cha , a smidge of Wis, dump Str and Int.


Ideas and (obviously) necessary Improvements ??

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Types of Fire

I'm wondering about both Fluff and Crunch for the various types of fire, that have popped up over the years.

Faerie Fire
Psychokinesis Fire
Fire ... in the OA 5-elements with No Air
Fire ... that can not work under water, even though it can in real life
Phlogiston theory (discarded science, thought true at the time)
Plasma ... as something the Illithids wield but only in the direst of circumstances
etc

Anybody got more types?
Or ideas how these sorts of things should be different from each other?

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Frenzy ?

Was there ever a Frenzy guide, or optimizing?

It looks to me like about 1/3rd of the Rage stuff works with it.


I ask because the OA Sohei has always looked very weak to me,
and each time I come back round on it, it looks worse.  So saving
this drowned puppy from itself, still isn't gonna get much.
I'm just wondering ...

I just got to watch an hours long battle ... (yes I was doing other things)  :argue ... between an encroaching Crow and some settled Robins.  It was raining solid but lightly, and the crow couldn't maneuver as well as normal.  The robins would roost just outside it's reach, and then peckAttack at his tail feathers whenever he started to fly off.  Now once he got going, he was faster, and could loop around and dive bomb the robins eagle style.  However all they needed was a bit of tree cover to loose him.  This went on for a very long time.

So I thought of Dragons battling.  And maybe the "element" doesn't have to be only Rain water.  It could be a favorable element to the smaller dragons.  Like an Old Black Dragon versus Young Green Dragons in a poisonous swamp + fog area.

So of course we understand the history here.

d4 is 2*2
d6 is 2*3
d8 is 2*2*2
d10 is 2*5
d12 is 2*2*3
d20 is 2*2*5
... in otherwords, lots of overlap.


Compare to
d5 ; cheap version is d6 with a re-roll on face 6
d6 ; retain for 2s and 3s
d7 ; cheap version is d8 with a re-roll on face 8
d11 ; cheap version is d12 with a re-roll on face 12
d13 ... would be new and funky looking
d17 ... would be very new and very funky looking
d19 ; cheap version is d20 with a re-roll on face 20

Advantage of way more random results,
and the average die value is a whole number.
(Never over-estimate Americans and fractions)
