KAGARIBITO
The kagaribito were created by the atlach to explore the worlds the atlach built bridges to, and to protect the atlach when they went into the outer worlds themselves.  The kagaribito are mechanical constructs, animated by a heart of tama and the atlach's expert craftsmanship.
Personality: Kagaribito appear taciturn and emotionless, but that isn't an accurate description of their personalities.  Under their unchanging faces, kagaribito are actually quite cheerful and pleasant, and if you know where to look, you might find that most kagaribito wear a faint smile.  Kagaribito possesses an unbreakable volition, and the Records are filled with legends of their bravery and courage.
Physical Description: For the most part, a kagaribito resembles a human.  Like the atlach, kagaribito have pale skin and straight hair, though for most models of kagaribito that hair is white.  Unlike humans or atlach, however, a kagaribito's skin and hair is nothing more than a coating over a mechanical interior.  Often, sometimes as a matter of model, sometimes as a matter of style, a kagaribito will have some of their inner wiring exposed.  An arm or leg with its mechanisms fully exposed is fairly common.  Kagaribito are primary composed of metal, with the occasional rubberized or plasticine part.
Relations: Kagaribito like and are liked by the other races of the Records.  Unlike many other creatures from the Akashic Records, kagaribito are comfortable with races from the outer worlds, and frequently live among them.  In particular, kagaribito get along well with humans, their outward physical similarities paving the way for strong relationships.
Alignment: Kagaribito, like most of the creatures in the Records, tend towards neutrality.
Kagaribito Lands: Kagaribito have no lands of their own, but they can be found throughout the Records.  Most kagaribito live on the World End Cliffs with the atlach, though many kagaribito live in the City of Marrow.  Few kagaribito live in noin lands.  There is a decent population of kagaribito in the outer worlds, though no major kagaribito settlements.
Religion: Kagaribito, like most of the creatures in the Records, worship the kami.
Language: Kagaribito, like most of the creatures in the Records, speak Moji.  Kagaribito player characters speak Common, and kagaribito living in the outer worlds speak whatever language is used around them.
Names: All kagaribito have a model number, make number, and identification number.  However, kagaribito rarely go by those numbers, instead choosing simple first names to go by.  Most kagaribito choose atlach-like names, though some choose names they hear in the outer worlds.  Kagaribito don't have last names, though some will use their model name/number in place of a last name.
Adventurers: Unlike many of the races in the Akashic Records, kagaribito are born adventurers.  It is the task they were made for, and a task they enjoy doing.  A kagaribito needs little reason to go on an adventure, and most will jump at any opportunity they can get.  Even the more domestically minded kagaribito enjoy mixing things up every now-and-then with an adventure or two.

KAGARIBITO RACIAL TRAITS
  • Living Construct Subtype: Kagaribito are constructs with the living construct subtype.  A living construct is a created being given sentience and free will through powerful and complex creation enchantments.  As a living construct, kagaribito have the following traits.
-- Unlike other constructs, a kagaribito has a Constitution score.
-- Unlike other constructs, a kagaribito does not have low-light vision or darkvision.
-- Unlike other constructs, a kagaribito is not immune to mind-affecting techniques and abilities.
-- Immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, and necromancy effects.
-- A kagaribito cannot heal damage naturally.
-- Unlike other constructs, kagaribito are subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, stunning, ability damage, ability drain, and death effects or necromancy effects.
-- As living constructs, kagaribito can be affected by techniques that target living creatures as well as by those that target constructs.  However, healing techniques and supernatural abilities that cure hit point damage provide only half their normal effect to a kagaribito unless the technique or effect explicitly targets constructs.
-- A kagaribito with 0 hit points is disabled, just as a living creature.  She can only take a single move action or standard action each round, but strenuous activity does not risk further injury.  When her hit points are less than 0 and greater than -10, a kagaribito is inert.  She is unconscious and helpless, and she cannot perform any actions.  However, an inert kagaribito does not lose additional hit points unless more damage is dealt to her, as with a living creature that is stable.
-- As a living construct, a kagaribito can be raised or resurrected.
-- A kagaribito does not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, but she can benefit from the effects of consumable techniques and akashic items, such as potions.
-- Although living constructs do not need to sleep, a kagaribito wizard must rest for 8 hours before preparing spells.
  • +2 Strength, -2 Wisdom: The kagaribito were designed for battle, and their increased Strength is a testament to this.  Their common sense is a bit lacking, however.
  • Medium: As Medium creatures, kagaribito have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Kagaribito base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Naturally Akashic: Kagaribito gain 2 bonus tama at 1st level.  This benefit does not grant them the ability to use techniques unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a technician class.
  • Pyros Reactor (Ex): All kagaribito are powered by an engine known as a pyros reactor, that is located where a humanoid creature's heart would be.  This reactor allows the kagaribito to spend tama as a swift action to realize various effects.  Each effect lasts for 1 round.  A kagaribito cannot spend more tama on a single effect that her tama capacity.  Kagaribito can spend tama for the followings effects.
-- A racial bonus on attack rolls equal to the amount of tama spent.
-- A racial bonus on damage rolls equal to the amount of tama spent.
-- A racial bonus to Armor Class equal to the amount of tama spent.
-- A racial bonus on saving throws equal to the amount of tama spent.
  • +4 racial bonus on Survival checks: Kagaribito are built for both soldiering and exploration.  As such, they are programed with basic survival skills.
  • Automatic Languages: Common and Moji.  Bonus Languages: Any (other than secret languages, such as Druidic).
  • Favored Class: Meister.  A multiclass kagaribito's meister class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.
