Grey steps off into the hole without bothering to climb down the ladder. Instead of falling abruptly, he floats down as if he weighs no more than an autumn leaf. Even after he reaches the bottom, his feet never actually touch the floor, instead hovering about a foot above it. After looking around quietly, he says "How odd... Was the current city built on top of an older one? And I am curious how and why it is kept so clean..."

Sckhar releases his greatsword from its scabbard while checking its surroundings.

"Perhaps it was designed as some kind of escape route, in case something big happened in the city? Also, magic can be used to provide this kind of cleaning effect, right?"

"Even homes might have small, hidden passages. It doesn't surprise me at all that this city would have many hidden secrets." The pale man landed gracefully one hand supporting his pack. While he gazed back and forth around their surroundings, his hand always floated nearby his weapon, as if Sckhar had the right idea. "We should remain quiet; this is unknown terrain, and if anyone caught on to us before we get our bearings, we'll probably die down here."

Korth descends the ladder carefully and, reaching the floor, scans the tunnel with all his senses, not expecting a hidden or invisible foe, but alert nontheless.

Grey wracks his brain for bits of lore that might be helpful, while also scanning the area with his eyes and ears, as well as mind, for any unseen threats.

All of a sudden, Grey jerks his head up from his reverie and says "Oh, I know what this is! These are the old dry docks from the days when Frakas was a military shipyard, before Gahst and Frais split into separate countries. I remember reading about these and being very impressed. They'd lift whole fleets for repairs. I also recall that they were preserved, in case they were ever needed again, but built over."

He looks around again, as if seeing them for the first time. "I guess I'm not the only one who remembered them, either. Someone decided to set up shop down here, obviously.

I wonder if these lift mechanisms still work... and what would happen if we tried one of the ones with a roof over it now..."

Over the mental link, Fina responds to Grey. <<Really? You don't say... I'll try to finish up here and make my way to you in case you need more help, but I haven't found out much yet. If I don't turn anything up shortly, I'll head out.>>

Presently...

Fina sets her tea down, and begins looking around the room. She doesn't search invasively, but attempts to piece together clues from anything she can see without disturbing anything overly much.

"Let's not toy with the mechanics keeping the roof stable." The elf said this with a smirk, awkwardly covered up as soon as he could manage. He seemed a bit self conscious of his teeth, though not so much embarrassed as much as he seemed to remember suddenly that he shouldn't be showing it off. Nothing about him seemed too bothered, though, as he put himself at the front and center of the spreading group, bow drawn and eyes open. With an odd motion, he flourished with his dark cloak, and when the cloak fell back off his shoulder, a raven was inexplicably resting there. The elf and raven looked at one another, knowingly, before the bird took off down the corridor. "Give me a moment...."

The elf smiled, as his eyes rolled back and the information flooded into his mind. It was an odd thing, that spirit raven and the sensations it could impart. He often wondered if it would be the same feeling, seeing through a normal bird, but it wasn't important. His eyes rolled back as he turned to the group, leaving the raven flying on its own as a sort of alert sentry. "Large drops, probably your ship-lifting areas, to the east, walls to the north and south. West seems like it would also end in a drop, though it seems also like the most interesting direction to go. Are we all down here and ready?"

Fina seems taken with the dark grey gown, ignoring the blue and black ones in favor of investigating it. It reminded her of charcoal, more-so than the black one, and so she admired its sullen beauty, despite how ostentatious the design is.

"If I might ask, Ma'am, what are these gowns for?"

"If I might ask, Ma'am, what are these gowns for?"

She wakes as gently as she passed asleep. Looks over at Fina, a bit curious as to how she got over there, a bit curious as to what she was doing over there, then she seems to take Fina's curiosity with grace, or apathy.

"Gowns like those are for attending well-to-do functions, of course. When the Houses meet together in such a manner, even The Help dresses the part."

The manner in which she said "The Help" seemed a bit odd. A mixture of pride and sarcasm.

"If you like, I could make you one. Though, I don't believe I have the materials here for it."

"Fina is still talking to the old lady, but I told her what we'd found, and where. So she can join us later, if she decides to. I will soon lose my mental connection to her, though. It only lasts about half an hour.

Which way would be towards the sea? I think perhaps we could check the seaward direction first, to see if they're sticking these people directly into ships? If that doesn't turn up anything, we check the other direction?"

"That plan sounds, uh, sound. I'm afraid I can't tell you the direction of the sea, however."

"I think it's that way" *points* "but intuitively determining direction isn't exactly my speciality..."

Grey starts floating Westward, and mentally tells Fina which way the rest of the group is heading.
