As the flood of images pouring into Xuuvosic's finally begins to wane, time seems to speed back up again. While the phane writhes in the powerful grip of the general, his duplicate plunges from the top of the cliff, its sword outstretched towards Xuuvosic, leaving little doubt as to its intent. Then Xuuvosic calls upon the power of the Lochnar, and to all of you it seems as if time slows, and the very fabric of space itself distorts into a kind of whirlpool centered on the black orb. As you're all pulled into this whirlpool, you see the flow of time begin to move backwards around you. First you see slow motion images of yourselves walking backwards down the slopes of the volcano. Then as speed of the images speeds up, you see smoke, flames, and lava climbing back up the side of the mountain and back into the caldera, which then closes up on itself. At the last, you see an image of the small black sphere of the Lochnar, streaking upwards into the sky at tremendous speed, and you're dragged along with it, like driftwood in the wake of a swift sea vessel.

As your travel upwards, your speed increases, and you soon leave the familiar blue glow of the sky, and plunge into the star-filled void of the Astral Plane. Your apparent progression, both through time and space you suspect, is now so rapid that you cannot make out individual creatures as you pass them. Ahead of you, you see a great wheel with 12 spokes. You head towards the rim of the wheel, and as you get closer, you can see a tortured red landscape beginning to spread out before you. You streak passed a city of iron, with an enormous tower of unimaginable size at its center, and approach a much more modest black castle in the wastelands beyond. As you approach, time seems to slow down again, and you see outside the tower a sizable force of devils is doing battle with an enormous beast, which seems to be laying waste to them. Slowly, it turns its terrible gaze towards you and a look of horror is frozen onto its face for eternity as the black orb of the Lochnar burrows right through its flesh, and its body collapses inward in a flash of fire and brimstone, leaving only the matte black sphere hovering on the ground where it once stood.

You all touch down lightly, as if you'd just stepped out of a carriage, and find yourself surrounded by a small army of bloodied devils, with many of their comrades laying dead on the ground at their feet. Then a tall, handsome devil approaches that you recognize. It is Sammael. He says "My Master says to give you his regards, but he regretfully will not be able to meet you in person, as he has other pressing matters. He does thank you for dropping in at such a convenient time, though." As he says the last, he winks knowingly. "Before he left, he bid me to aid you in whatever way I can, but also told me to ask you not to use that... " He points at the Lochnar "while within the realm of his patron, or anywhere else in the Nine Hells if it can be avoided."

The other devils stare at you for a few moments, then seem to accept the authority of Sammael, or more properly his Master, and grudgingly begin to turn and leave, heading towards the black castle.

Cade's blood boils as soon as they touch down, and he can feel the Demon clawing its way from his subconscious. However, once the mass of devils leaves, the itching at the very edge of his being subsides somewhat, though it does not completely go away. Simply being within the realm of the Nine Hells is contrary to his essence, even if he does not entirely associate himself with Demonkind.

In response to the tall Devil, Cade replies, "I'm sure that is for the best."

Marlowe tucks his crossbows away, allowing himself a small satisfied grin. Finally, after hunting down a paradox demon who might not have even existed, traveling to Thesk to retrieve Xuuvosic's siblings, chasing after a band of goblins, walking right into an aboleth's maw, creeping into Myth Drannor to travel back in time and landing in a hellwasp nest, and snatching an artifact out from under a phane's nose, they have the Lochnar. He'd like to see other clerks do that.

A thought occurs to him, and he turns to address Sammael. "It strikes me that we may wish to take certain precautions at this point. Would your master or his patron raise any objections if I were to keep records of this matter? I believe Xuuvosic can render them relatively safe from any upheavals our ride might cause."

The devil replies "I have no orders pertaining to your record keeping, one way or the other.

Precautions are definitely something I would advise, though. My Master said to warn you that every use of... your ride... brings with it many risks. You've witnessed its destructive power already, but beyond the direct results, its actions always... well, make history, although the causes are always attributed to something else. However, if one knows what to look for, it is possible to estimate its path backwards through time. Your enemies may attempt to track you through this. So he said to advise you to use it as little as possible."

"Yes, I believe the fewer times we use it the better. That said, I think keeping records might prove useful as an insurance policy of sorts. Should we be killed, erased from existence, or perhaps set on a different course entirely, leaving notes for someone who comes after, whether ourselves or some other powerful entity, may make a significant difference."

"So what precautions beyond record-keeping are we considering? What's more, what is our plan from this point on?"

Before anyone can reply to Raoul's query, Sammael interrupts "Ah... I'd advise you not to discuss things too much here in the open. Infernal politics can be quite... complex. You never know who might be listening. There is a magically protected room within the castle that you may use, if you wish.

I was also told to give you the key to a pocket dimension which you could use as a safe haven of sorts, which will likely be safer for you than meeting here even. As I said... infernal politics."
He glances quickly at a few of the devils which haven't quite gotten out of earshot, and then back to your group and smiles coyly.

"The obvious way to proceed would be to take out one of the target's ancestors. But we don't yet know where they are or what kind of crazy fucking precautions the kobold may have taken. So we're gonna need a shitload of divination. So for our precautions think in terms of safe places to hole up. Don't suppose we could use a room in Dispater's tower? I hear that place is a bitch to break into." Xuuvosic sounds less than hopeful about the chances of his request being granted.

"Alright, lets shoot the shit there. You'll join us Sammy?"

"I will show you to your new quarters, but I can not tarry long. I have many duties here to see to. However, there is a portal within your chambers which leads directly to my Master's castle. This door however is keyed to only allow specific designated individuals to pass through it, and you are not on the list I am afraid. There is a bell to call me with however. So if you need me, I will not be far away. You should find all that you need there, and if not, I will do what I can to provide it. So, shall we?"

As he speaks, he pulls out a small black pyramid which you see has a golden hourglass inlaid on each of its faces, which is each about the size of a man's palm. He holds it in his hand and speaks a word in infernal, and a black portal with a purple outline appears. He motions and says "After you."

Ris-Janna makes a face like she might be about to puke. It's hard to say if that's from the trip with the Lochnar or from where she is. She never wanted anything to do with any of the lower planes, least of all this one. She moves to lean on the next best rock before thinking better of touching anything here, and instead just stands in place, looking as invisible as she can. "So... we get to this safe place... and talk about things?" She looks at the portal suspiciously, waiting for someone else to inaugurate it.

Xuuvosic gives one of his weird alien shrugs, walking through the portal. "Well we have a fuckton to do. So we better get to it. Wouldn't want to keep you from your duties Sammy." The demon makes the word duties sound like a curse orders of magnitude greater that the usual stream of profanity that streams from his mouth.

Marlowe takes a small black-bound notebook from his pocket, along with a slim pen, and strolls through the portal, already writing busily.

Raoul steps through the portal after confirming that no deathly screams depart from its interior.

The interior of the portal looks like a modest, sparsely decorated house. There is a kitchen, complete with an ice-box that's always cold, and a stove that seems to never need more than the press of a button to light a fire. There are only three bedrooms, two of which have a pair of full-sized beds in them, while the last has an oversized king with extra plush padding. The living room has comfortable furniture, and comes complete with a scrying pool. There are windows, but they appear to look out onto illusionary scenes, which upon further inspection can have the images that they project adjusted to fit whatever the user desires.

Sammael grins a wicked smile to Ris-Janna and says "Ladies first, I insist."

Ris-Janna frowns so hard the corners of her mouth look like they might hit the ground, then steps through without further comment.
