She turns toward the others, speaking  this time.
I am walking this world, looking for answers and revenge. My land was ravaged by a shapeshifting stranger made of darkness, and my people as well as my kin have been utterly slain. I have sweared to avenge them since that day. My unsuccessfull hunt have lead me here.

When the music and dancing began, the sharp-eyed may have noticed that a patch of the downpour near the ground started swaying in time.  Soon after, a boy steps from behind a tree, and walks slowly toward the fire.

He is small and quick, quiet of step, sharp-eared and sharp-eyed, with sandy hair and seagreen eyes, thin at a scant 3-1/2 feet tall and less than 40 pounds, about the size of a human 6 year old. From his ears and build and quickness of movement it looks as if faerie must run in his blood, though – to those who know such things – he resembles no specific creature of the woods; perhaps he is part faerie, part human.

The boy walks up to Misae at the fire, stopping just short of touching her, and looks up at her, eyes wide and sad. He holds his arms out as if to hug her around the knees.

I like to hear songs and tales too, but yours… Oh, that’s terrible! You must be really angry. Still.

You’re very fiery, you almost feel hot. OOOH! You ARE fire! That’s really interesting!

He turns to Illurien. And you’re… really not water!

The boy skips over to Loptr, gazing up at him. And you’re… really big!

Then he takes a few steps toward Ádhúil, towering over him. And you’re… really little!

He turns toward Mystery. Are you really a mystery? Do you have to be, even with your friends? Then I can’t get to know you much, because you wouldn’t be a mystery..

Dampened spirits; he’s a bit crestfallen, but then he moves on and his mood shifts back into curiosity as he takes a few dancing steps over to Fwisp, and twirls around him a few times while talking. And you’re… you’re…………….… I don’t know! He starts laughing, delicious amusement at his own surprise.

Haha!

Other people like to call me Blisss.

When people in groups stay at night in new places, they like to have someone watch, and take turns in pairs while some sleep. Do you like that too? Are you all going to stay here tonight? I can help watch for us... with someone I can talk to. Very quietly. So we won’t wake up anyone else.

The boy looks around for a big puddle, just out of the roof line into the rain, and sits down in it, face to the skies, holding his arms up into the downpour, palms up to catch and guide the coursing water into his open mouth.

Soaked to the skin, his clothes cling to him. They are well-made but simple, a dark green pullover shirt, dark blue trousers, beltless, and hardy-looking boots. He has no pack, weapons, or other belongings.

Sitting in the puddle, the boy gazes speculatively at Loptr. Loptr. L. O. P. Trrrr. That’s a really unusual, interesting name. Lots of people’s names mean something specific from history, but your name's meaning has disagreement. Some people think it’s another name for Loki, from Odin’s Pantheon... but that doesn’t say what it means, just that Loki had it.

I’m sure it’s Old Norse, and it’s very close to the word for air, but not exactly, and it also sounds like their words for fruit, and for land, and to grow or shape, or even… blaze, but that was later when the language began to change.
He glances at Misae. His eyes crinkle; his thought skipped to something else… but then he goes on. It could be something about creation, making, maybe about how the world, the land, is supposed to be grown, or shaped or created. Earth and air. Shaping into fruit...

Really BIG fruit!!!
He grins at Loptr, then gazes off into the near distance for a moment, lips screwed in concentration, then sighs and shakes his head. That’s all I overheard, all I remember right now anyway..

The boy starts splashing his hands in the puddle around him.

I could wash your clothes or blankets, if you like.  Or rinse them, if you don’t have soap. There have to be some big pools of water collected somewhere near, with all this rain.

Loptr grins at the boy, wondering if it is a boy, but unable to suppress his natural mirth and like of children, and says "You sure seem to know a lot, for a young one. What are you doing alone here in this abandoned place?"  He leans towards the boy and says with an audible whisper "Places like this are often haunted, you know? Aren't you afraid you'll meet a ghost?"

Then after a quick glance at Misae, he says "Maybe you already have!" and breaks out in boisterous laughter. Then he continues "Why don't you come in here out of the rain, before you catch a cold? Tis' bad enough we'll likely be playing nursemaids for a babe, without having to be your nurses as well."

Illurien glances at the boy, unsure of what to make of him. She speaks into his mind.

<<You are strange, young one. You have no sense of boundaries... in that, we have something in common.>>

She attempts to read the memories and secrets within the boy's mind, but finds significant resistance. No, resistance isn't the word. It is as though there is almost nothing there to read, but for a few scant details.

<<You are no mere boy... You are but hiding behind the face of one, but it is as though you have no experiences... none that I can glean. How... disappointing. And yet, intriguing...>>

Illurien crosses her arms, then floats into the air and circles the "child," trying to study him it seems. Broadcasting her thoughts in general, she speaks again.

<<Hmm... in any case, you were wrong. I am water... but not like that of a river or lake. Really... you ought to know.>>

The boy looks at Loptr, eyes wide.

A… ghost??  Really?? I hope so! I’ve never talked to one before! I heard that they’re really cold, and you can see through them. Is that true? Have you ever met one before? Do we have to wait till it’s dark, or do you think one would come out during the day?

Then when Loptr glances at Misae, Blisss looks at her carefully, considering, finally saying. But Misae is hot not cold, and I can’t see through her……. Is there such a thing as a fire ghost that are hot and you can’t see through? I don’t recall ever overhearing something like that!

He continues, Catching a cold.  I tried that already, lots of times, and couldn’t catch any of them, not a one, even though they were all over the village one winter. I know what they are, they’re invisible, and they make people’s noses runny, and their eyes watery, and they sneeze a lot, and it seemed so deliciously WET… but I couldn’t find it and catch it, even after I looked around all over and tried really hard. I even tried when I was playing in the snow, when my friends said it was sure to work, and it didn’t. Maybe colds don’t like me, I don’t know why they wouldn’t. Blisss has a sad face, trailing his hands in the water listlessly at his lack of success.

But... what am I doing here? Just looking around, following this rain where it goes, listening to its stories from upwind, I saw the cloud a week ago... and it came here, and so did I. If I follow water long enough, I meet all kinds of creatures, ‘cause most creatures like water.

Is this place abandoned now that we are here, or only after we leave?

Then he looks up at Illurien in surprise at the voice in his mind. His eyes cloud with her disappointment.

I’m… sorry, I don’t want to disappoint you…

You’re kind of like water, but it feels really different, like your water is made of stories, instead of just that it heard some. You must have lots of them to tell!

Oooh, I talked out loud, I got in that habit. Can you still hear me, or do I have to just think and not talk, like you do? Oop. Maybe you didn’t hear that either.
Blisss giggles, and then repeats what he just said aloud, this time only thinking it aloud and not saying it.

I am indeed Fire, Little one. No mere fire like this one, though. She smiled to the young child, gently caressing the bonfire flames like you pet a dog.I am the fire in your heart when you are happy, the burning ashes of sadness, the roaring blaze of anger, and the furnace of love.  I am Passion. So... yes. I am really angry. I am simmering with rage, little one. That's the reason why I am still alive, the last of my kind. But do not be afraid. My flames are reserved for the wicked and the kinslayers."
She starts floating a bit above the ground.
Some might say I am a ghost because I can fly silently and do not have a hard body.
She pass through the wall twice to demonstrate, smiling.
But I am a Spirit, a Kami, not a Ghost. Ghosts are the souls of dead people trying to stay in this world. I am from this world , a spiritual gardian of the Heavenly Order.

Blisss looks relieved.

Oh, good. It’s so much easier to remember when I can talk to everyone the same way. Otherwise sometimes the conversations can get really complicated, and I forget who understood what.

I wish I knew something you wanted so I could… mmmm……….. Oh! I remembered something! Maybe you would like this! Just like Loptr, it’s about your name, what it meant when words were made, a long time ago.

Your name would mean: someone who places others under the influence of words! I can only remember three times, and they were things said long ago and were when people were talking about… evil influences, I hope that’s all right.

“The sweet mouthes and illurements of hereticks.”

“He illured…” mmmm… from an ancient city that doesn’t exist any more… “six hundred thousand soules.”

“The devil insnareth the souls of many men, by illuring them… to undo them eternally.”

Blisss looks at Illurien hopefully.

When Mystery responds, he still looks disappointed because it seems Mystery will not talk to him, but then Blisss brightens as a thought occurs to him. He says to her, But do you know some stories that aren’t secrets? Then you could tell me those!

Blisss does come out of the puddle and the rain, to come close to Misae.

Spirits. I heard about spirits, and they’re not ghosts. Bliss shoots a look at Joptr, just to say that Misae is different. I’ve never talked to Fire before, or Passion either. And I never thought about my happiness being a fire in my heart, I thought it was more like the laugh of a frolicking splashing stream, and sadness like a dreary drizzle... but that’s just me. This is really interesting, you even think in Fire!

But I hope you will stay lit when we sink the kinslayers… or burn them, whatever. Because I wouldn’t want to lose you so soon to finding you, you’re much too bright to go out, and leave the world dimmer without you.

The stories have all kinds of endings… and most of them haven’t ended at all, they are just little bits of story, swirling in a great ocean of all kinds of feelings and creatures.

If you’re Passion, and especially Love, there is still a lot that needs guarding.

Now I know why I found you, why the cloud led me here. You need a different way of thinking, to keep you burning after your rage goes out.

Blisss looks up at her. Just for a moment, his eyes don’t seem like the eyes of a child at all; Misae meets a timeless gaze from ages beyond counting, brimming with love of all living things, pouring well-being into her. Then he laughs and looks away.

We’ll find them and take care of them. And then you’ll feel much better, Misae Passion! He skips over to Loptr and points up at the huge earthbreaker strapped to him. You can hit them with THAT!

A look of concern passes quickly over the big man's brow when the small child speaks of the etymology of Illurien's name, but it seems it is soon forgotten when the child's attention turns to him again. He laughs and says "Yes indeed, I will be happy to avenge our friend's village, if we find the one responsible for destroying it. And I too hope she can find reason to exist past that day of victory."

Illurien looks curiously at Blisss, but shrugs it off. <<Little one, you owe me nothing. If you did, you would be sure of the price, as it would be, as typically, steep.>> She looks at the boy, recognizing that her stern words would bring nothing but further attempts to get acknowledgement from her, and adds, <<Your command of written prose is impressive, though. Where did you encounter this information?>>

Fwisp watches Blisss's antics with enthusiastic bemusement.  "Passing strange, creatures of the elements here gathered, drawn to confluence: water," indicating Blisss, "air," gesturing to himself, "fire," Misae, "land," Loptr, "light," Adhuil, "spirit," Illurien, "mind," Mystery.  "Tales, Fwisp has heard, upon such groupings chance is not found."

I think some here could certainly qualify for more than one element.  Perhaps Illurien is both spirit and mind.  Misae, maybe you are also spirit as well as fire.  And Loptr, in addition to land, I suspect you might also embody the element of chance.  So, I guess chance is found in this grouping!  Adhuil grins widely at Fwisp.

Loptr seems unusually serious as he listens to Fwisp's summary of their party, then he says " I do not doubt that Fate has brought us here, as it always guides my path, though my travels might seem random to some. If we are drawn here for some collective destiny, then I guess we just pass the night and wait for it to reveal itself.

What about a game of chance to pass the time?"

As Blisss wanders toward Fwisp and Ádhúil, he responds to Illurien’s question over his shoulder… more or less.

Written! I know written… I mean writing, But I haven’t practiced it much yet. But I can read it! I found out about books in the village, ‘cause people brought them, and I saw how it matches what people say, once I knew what the sounds are for the different little squiggly lines, I mean the letters. And there are all kinds of different ways to write them, there must be some for all the different ways people speak, all the different languages, but I don’t know them all yet.

I overheard someone say ‘the tongue and the hand’ about learning the language somewhere they traveled to, and then I knew what I had to do.

Blisss circles round and round Fwisp again.

Fwisp, I don’t remember… Then he stops, and starts again, haltingly.

Remember I not Fwisp… ever seeing before… someone like you. Saw I flying squirrels, kind of like them, you are. And bats. Like bats... more. But talk very high, bats, and regular words… not, like you… not.

Wow. That was hard. You talk almost like another language. Did I get it right?

Then Bliss says to Ádhúil, I guess Fwisp understood you… you didn’t speak his language but he did anyway.

We really ARE all different elements, I was just thinking that too, except I didn’t think about Mind and Spirit and Light being elements, but there are lots of things to make other things, all different ways. So I guess they could be! I usually say everyone is made of water, but some of you aren’t, not at all. Ádhúil, you made dancers appear and then fade… Are you really made of Light, instead of water?

Blisss puts his hands in front of his eyes and squints through a crack between his fingers at Ádhúil. Then Blisss kneels down, curiosity all over his face, and tries to touch Ádhúil’s hat to find out if he is solid or…?

As Blisss reaches for him, a twinkle appears in Adhuil's eye.  Suddenly he disappears.  I'm over here!  Blisss hears Adhuil's voice behind him, and turns to see Adhuil step out from behind Misae.  Or am I over here?  Adhuil disappears again and reappears standing on Loptr's shoulder.  Maybe I'm all over the place!  4 more Adhuils appear - one peeking out from under Fwisp's wing, one standing in front of Mystery, another at Illurien's feet, and one reappearing sitting on the stone where Blisss initially saw him - all giggling uncontrollably.  All of the Adhuils fade away except for the (possibly?) original one sitting in front of Blisss, who does indeed find Adhuil's hat to be solid.  To your question - no I'm not made of light, but I greatly enjoy manipulating it.
