Magic Does Not Hear Names
« on: April 16, 2016, 11:01:11 PM »
There is one small quirk in Divination magic. Namely, it cannot refer to a person by their name.

The wise sages agree - magic simply cannot "think" in terms of individuals. The best you can learn is what groups the person you are searching for belongs to. So, rather than learning that John Swafenson murdered the king, you might learn that he is a Pelorite or a member of the Swafenson line.

All other information you must find for yourself.

Interestingly, though, you can "sacrifice" your name to magic - in exchange for certain benefits, your name becomes "known" and subject to divinations.

Because having magic play The Rock of Tahamaat is hilarious.
"There is happiness for those who accept their fate, there is glory for those that defy it."

"Now that everyone's so happy, this is probably a good time to tell you I ate your parents."
