Crafting Items feat ... v ... regular old feat = unfair fight in 3e and 4e.

Can 3e Fighters do anything near what 1 Wizard (or Psion) feat at level 3 ?
Can 4e Fighters do anything near what 1 Wizard ritual (via a feat) does at level 4 ?
Nope.

If a level 6 feat slot gave a Fighter the equivalent of Ghost touch on his weapons,
how does this compare (at all) to LoP's Endless Spells at level 6, one feat, one spell, one AP.
It doesn't. And yet the Fighter feat is better than some of the things it can get at level 6.

There isn't anything resembling the mythical "balance" in feats,
so long as X-mas tree crafting is associated with it.

**

Gandalf had his staff and that magic ball.
He slept with them because a Tuke might take it.
And his eyes open while sleeping. Thieves steal stuff.
How many Items can you have, and not have them pilfered ?
It's more a game design problem.

(all the way back at level 1)

... ye ol' Hi Welcome deserves a mention.
Not the Druid, the animal companion. And the bad 'tude.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Is the afterlife known?

Fluff ... depends on how tight to the book fluff a campaign goes.
Moradin gathers all souls to him;  where is he and what does he do with them?

Crunch ... Take 20 + 1 cc rank - 3 for Int of smart goat + 4 Aid Anothers (after years of doing this)
= Knowledge X check DC of 22 via the town Commoner 1s. That gets everyone to know that
when Bob died he got turned into that Ghost over there, so leave the ghost alone, please.
He's family ...  :-\

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Destroy the World!? Just how easy is it?
« on: January 15, 2012, 04:41:50 PM »
Heck, you could destroy the game-world as we know it with a Decanter of Endless Water. A single character could have that by level 5, in theory. Sure, lots of things would survive, but not most of the things most players care about.
Ha! Right like a global warming thing.
The Decanter is 30 gallons per round.
30 gallons = ~4 cubic feet = 2' x 2' square 1' deep.
Diameter = 7926 to 7901 miles, a little egg shaped.
4 pi (7914/2)^2 = surface area of Earth in miles
convert to feet ; divide by 4 = how long to "soak" Earth with 1 foot of water.

(time crunch)

Baatezu/Devils whenever one of the Lords gets off-ed.
Yugoloths inside their tower. Sigil but with a 2e feel.

RL ... anytime China had a dynasty end, all sorts of crazy things happened.
Lots of intrigue, to go with some of the deadliest wars in history.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Level 1-4 spells that boost skills
« on: January 15, 2012, 04:26:53 PM »
These are un-updated psi 3.0 powers, easy enough to bring over to magic.
Clairsentience = Divination. Psychoportation = Transmutation (Teleport) subschool

Greater Skill Knowledge
Clairsentience (Wis)
Level: Psion 4
Duration: 10 minutes/level (see text)
Power Points: 7

As skill knowledge, but you gain a +10 competence bonus on a single skill check. Alternatively, you gain proficiency with a single weapon (simple, martial, or exotic) or type of armor (light, medium, heavy, or shield) as if you had the appropriate feat.

Major Action
Psychoportation (Dex) [Time]
Level: Psion 3/Psychic Warrior 3
Power Points: 5

As minor action, however you are suspended in time long enough to take 20 on the skill check. You cannot use this power to "take 20" on an opposed check or on any check in which there is a penalty for failure (see Checks Without Rolls in Chapter 4 of the Player's Handbook).

Minor Action
Psychoportation (Dex) [Time]
Level: Psion 2/Psychic Warrior 2
Display: Vi (see text)
Manifestation Time: Special
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Power Resistance: No
Power Points: 3

This power warps time around you, providing a stable enough temporal environment that you can fully concentrate and may take 10 (if allowed for that skill) on one skill check immediately following the manifestation of this power. Others perceive you as surrounded by a silvery-blue glow for a fraction of a second. Because manifesting this power disrupts time, it is treated as a free action.

Skill Knowledge
Clairsentience (Wis)
Level: Psion 2
Display: Vi
Manifestation Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 minute/level
Power Points: 3

This power grants you temporary knowledge. You gain a +5 competence bonuson a single skill check of your choice. If you have no ranks in the skill, you are considered trained in the skill for as long as this power lasts.

Alternatively, you gain proficiency with a single weapon (simple or martial) or type of armor (light, medium, heavy, or shield) as if you had the appropriate feat.

Playtesting ... hints of CO-types banging away in that = hope.

Dim hope, but hope.

Hey, computers get better and better, and customer service
"can" get better and better, if the specific company is so inclined.
Hasbro ought to have access to what they need, to make 5e work.
Ought doesn't equal execution, though.

Good stuff. I wonder what levels 5, 10 and 15 look like?

Quadrillion damage is up in the Hulking Hurler territory.
I doubt anything else has gotten near this neighborhood.

psly4mne's version of Dirty Trick #4 is the damage record holder.
Knuth's uparrow notation figures into it (not that I get the whole thing).

Significant Other + Med School = tough time crunch.
It's kinda like dating again, but doing it longer.

Dude says to me: "You know what they call the guy who graduates last in Med School ?"
I say: "What ?"
(... implying I had no idea in general, and no idea at all about the joke.)
Dude then says:

Yes = shucks.

or

Yes, But !
MIC Torc ... versus ... SRD Torc = take the SRD Torc  :D
Yeah I know, the Psi guys got a little grumpy around the CPsi time period, and after.

7293
Oh yeah, ambiguity strikes again.
Yep.
Bringing T.O. to a C.O. firefight is mean.
Bad aDMg bad.

hmm ... I think a Bloodline could weaken things, like
Commoner 1 / Survivor 1 / Bloodline LA+1 / Survivor +2 / Bloodline 2nd LA / Survivor +2 / Commoner +3 / Bloodline 3rd LA
level 12 = Commoner 4 / Survivor 5 / Bloodline 3
The bloodline can suck, and not help much, ~12 hitpoints, BAB +2, weird features list
Still can fit in UrPriest 9 with one LA buy-off. Needs more massaging.
 :)

[timecrunchsucks]
EDIT --- partially ninja'd by Kremti

Mid Aug feat requires the 1 ppoint aug to still happen.
Something else can reduce that 1 ppoint.
The Torc works ... via magic mart or make your own.
The Earth Sense and Earth Power feats also work.

Azuran (human)
1) Earth Sense
3) Earth Power
6) Mid Aug + 2 essentia points

Yes it is a lot of feat infrastructure. The Combo goes:
Bestow Power aug'd once. Normal cost is 6 ppoints.
Now costs just 3 ppoints. Output is 4 ppoints.
Advantage 1 ppoint for the effort. Repeat 'til happy.

Dominant Ideal at 10 gets rid of the 1 Psi Focus need.
Here you stack on Linked Metapsi and Metapower feats.
1st level power + Linked + Aug'd Bestow + Mid Aug feat + Metapower
= no psi focus needed , normal (1+6=) 7 ppoint cost ,
Mid Aug reduces 2 ppoints. Metapower 2 more.
Now costs just 3 ppoints. Output is 4 ppoints.
Advantage 1 ppoint for the effort. Repeat 'til happy.
** Advantage also ... no need for either the Torc or Earth feats, and you'd pick Linked anyway.
Assumes Bestow Power is on the DI Mantle via Substitute Powers.
or
Bestow Power + linked + Bestow Power + Torc + Metapower
... gets rid of the Mid Aug feat.

I still really really ought to do the recharge handbook I keep promising.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Illithid Savant for Iron Siege.
« on: January 13, 2012, 04:42:36 PM »
There is a faster and more open way to get to Illithid Savant.
Discussed here ---> http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=826.0

This would give 5 more levels of IS,
10 more levels  for the under level 20
part of the build. And more racial support.

Grab a Rakshasa's spell level immunity.

7296
IF a Savage Species racial class existed
for the race Tsuyo used to beat Pun-pun,
it would basically suck until it got it's amazo power.
4rhd + 2la that don't do much ;  3rd LA at level 7  = overdeity.

 :) ... assumes T.O. lite
Eh? You mean the ECL 11 of Pun-Pun version I take it. However, it still loses out. Even a Steel Dragon can do things at ECL 6 :p
(bangs out cobwebs)

Shaedling = The Most Broken PC Race. EVER.
http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19861802/The_Most_Broken_PC_Race._EVER.?pg=1
... sometime after the 1st post, he argued with Khan about the highest end.
I missed the fireworks the first go round. Good times.

If an SS class existed, it'd go: level 6 = yawn , level 7 = ridiculousness.
By-the-way, I'm not suggesting this as C.O. and usable.

Commoner 1 / Survivor 5 / support / Thrallherd X
Every feat and flaw for Thrallherd qualifying.
Only 4 hit points for 6 levels in really bad.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Ardent Gish/Tashalatora

Recharge side of things ...

Azuran (human) gets 1 essentia point.
Midnight Augmentation gets 1 more ... probably level 6 here.
Put both into Bestow Power, every day.
At first augmentation BP is costing 4 ppoints to get 4 back.
Just need 1 more ppoint discount = gold.

(time crunch)(the bg site had/has and has here numerous threads)

7298
I'd hafta get MOI out to refresh my kitty avatar's memories, but ...

one of the psi recharge set-ups can be done with just feats.
1) hidden talent - that cpsi 2hp healy power
3) X for now retrain at level 6 into Practiced Manifester
6) Cognizance Crystal 1ppoint - make it whenever
..... at 7 retrain the CC feat into Azure Talent feat
..... at 8 retrain the PM feat into Psycarnum Infusion feat

Result = unlimited slow out of combat healing

9) whatever everyone else has posted that fits

7299
'Nother angle ...

How often at this point, do C.O. builds include a long and tedious items list?
Carnivore was the clear exception. Otherwise, everyone else is going
by Build + key feats + maybe one tricky Item. Or just the Build.

So items are off in Limbo these days.
Kinda like being on a technology trailing wave.
Fighter says: I got a Sword +2.
Wizard says: I made a Boccob's Book (grin).
Older Wizard says: Look what I got.

7th level is high enough to afford one casting of Contingency.
Get an always on Item of perhaps Detect Psionics (1*1*2000).
Fluff text + historical Illithids = way to get it's attention.

You get near it via sleuthing / skills / divinations.
It tracks you. It finds you. It goes for the brain candy kill.
Contingency screws it. The party kills it.
