KAMI
The kami are the embodiment of the Akashic Records' mind, and its unquestioned rulers.  This being said, an individual kami is not in itself very powerful, physically or socially.  The true power of the kami lies in their three large factions: the Guild, the Tower, and the Factory.  All kami belong to one of these three factions, and a kami's faction has a close correlation to their personality and habits.  For historical reasons, the Tower and the Factory hate each other, and spend much of their time bickering and battling with one another.
Personality: Kami of the Guild are taciturn and emotionless, kami of the Tower are strict and orderly, and kami of the Factory are rambunctious and emotional.  Guild kami go through life following unspoken rules and obeying the commands of their superiors, Tower kami seek to reach the tops of their bureaucracy while abusing loopholes, and Factory kami do what they want, when they want, to whomever they want.
Physical Description: Kami are slender humanoids with pale skin and straight white hair.  Kami are slightly shorter than your average human, but otherwise closely resemble them.  They frequently wear subtle makeup, particularly around their eyes.  Unlike many of the other denizens of the Records, and unlike the humans they so closely resemble, kami have no internal organs, or indeed any internal differentiation at all.  In this way kami closely resemble henkei.
Relations: As nearly all creatures in the Akashic Records worship them, the kami are rather well regarded.  The kami themselves get along well with the other races, and neither look down upon nor use as tools those who worship them.  This isn't to say that the kami are perfect, but they are by no means despots.
Alignment: Guild kami are almost always lawful, Tower kami are almost always neutral, and Factory kami are almost always chaotic.  In all other respects, kami tend towards neutrality.
Kami Lands: Technically, the entirety of the Records can be considered kami lands.  However, most kami dwell within the City of Marrow.  There is a decent population of kami in the outer worlds, living within the shrines devoted to their worship.
Religion: Kami are entities that are worshiped, not entities that worship others.
Language: Kami, like most of the creatures in the Records, speak Moji.  Kami player characters speak Common, though kami living in the outer worlds rarely do, preferring instead to have people translate for them.  Most kami can understand common, even if they don't speak it.
Names: Guild kami rarely use names, addressing each other by function when identification is necessary.  Tower kami assume complicated names for themselves, often in the style of the atlach.  Factory kami tend to name themselves after animals or objects, and change their names frequently, much to the annoyance of the Tower.
Adventurers: While kami do go on what others would consider adventures, their motivations are rather different.  Kami adventure primarily to gather worship.  As such, kami tend to do things like protect villages from monsters or miraculously save princesses; things that garner them fame and appreciation.  They then turn this fame into worship for themselves and the Records.  The majority of this worship-gathering is done by the Tower kami.  The Guild kami adventure more for exploration or information gathering purposes, and the Factory kami adventure for fun or power.

KAMI RACIAL TRAITS
  • Outsider Type: Kami are outsiders.  As outsiders, kami have the following traits.
-- Darkvision out to 60 feet.
-- Unlike most outsiders, a kami can be raised or resurrected.
-- Kami breathe, but do not need to eat or sleep.
-- Although outsiders do not need to sleep, a kami wizard must rest for 8 hours before preparing spells.
  • -2 Strength, +2 Intelligence: Kami are the intelligence of the Akashic Records personified.  As such, they are quite intelligent.  These intellectual origins may explain their lack of physical strength.
  • Medium: As Medium creatures, kami have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Kami base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Wild Harmonic: A kami gains Wild Harmonic as a bonus feat.
  • Naturally Akashic: Kami gain 2 bonus tama at 1st level.  This is in addition to the bonus tama from the Wild Harmonic feat.  This benefit does not grant them the ability to use techniques unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a technician class.
  • Technique-Like Abilities: 1/day---record access, soul protect.  Technician level is equal to Hit Dice.
  • +4 racial bonus on any one Knowledge check (chosen at 1st level): As the manifestation of the Records' mind, all kami are born with particular talent in one area of study.
  • Automatic Languages: Common and Moji.  Bonus Languages: Any (other than secret languages, such as Druidic).
  • Favored Class: Any technician class.  When determining whether a multiclass kami takes an experience point penalty, her highest-level technician class does not count.
