As night fell, two things happened. The first was Kat slipping out one of the upper story rooms when no one was looking for her. A search of the house showed that she had disappeared completely, but then Cantra recalled that she had mentioned checking on all their families, and so everyone quieted down.

Shortly thereafter, the ruffian and his men arrived, leading two young women, both of whom looked careworn, their faces overly aged and lined, already sporting grey hairs in tufts although likely not into their third decade of life. Their clothing verged on rags, although they had been scrubbed down for the momentous occasion of meeting Mevra and her friends.

A brief nod from the ruffian introduced each of the women. "Alessia. Cetara. They are... were... mothers of the disappeared. Do what you can for them."

With that, he spun and left the building, taking his friends with him, anger written one his livid face.

Kat stops on a rooftop next to Cantra's house and peers down at the surrounding neighborhood, her owl senses providing good night vision and hearing.

The house and surrounding neighbourhood appears to be operating completely as per normal, with no sign or noise of any disturbances.

Kat flutters down to the ground. When she is reasonably sure that no one is watching, she becomes her normal self.

She walks to the door and slides a note underneath. She gives a hard knock, then scampers away to a quiet spot to become an owl again.

"Alessia and Cetara. I'm so sorry to have heard about what is going on. We're going to try and find the children, and the people who took them. How long ago did they disappear? When did you last see them, and where?"

Mevra hoped she hadn't been too blunt. She was typically fairly good with people, though she had to be careful with how she expressed emotions with other people. Sometimes her expressions were hard to get a read on.

Alessia answered for both of the women. "I... I... I..."

Cetara then cut in, her arm curling around Alessia. "I'm sorry my lady, she's taken it very hard. The children, all of them, were taken in the dead of night. We fell asleep, and woke up to find the babies gone. Different time for each of us. Maybe a month for me, but only a couple of days for Alessia. And it's the first she's lost. It gets easier over time. That's about all I can say."

She rubbed the back of her companion, trying to sooth her, before looking up into the Hegni's face. "There was one other thing, now I think of it. My room was damp afterwards. Strange, because it hadn't rained that night."

"Madam, I apologize. I did not mean to pour salt in the wound. I want to find your children, and find them alive, and bring them home to you. I want to help. And I want to punish those who would take children from their homes and families in such a manner... for any reason, really. I swear to you, I will do all that I possibly can to find the answers we need, and bring your children back if it is within my power to do so."

Considering what Cetara had said, Mevra turns to her and says, "Hmm, damp, you say? That is curious... Are there any fountains or sources of water near your home?"

Alessia smiles through her tears, but despite being comforted is on the edge of breaking out once more.

"None at all. That's why I noticed. I mean, sure the building leaks when it rains, but it was a dry night. And I'm on the second floor, love. Nothing gonna drip down from up in the attic."

"Hmm, do you have any idea if this is common in the other cases? Were anyone else's rooms mysteriously damp, or just your's?"

Raising her hand, Alessia answered. "Miii... mine was too."

"I know where she lives. There's no reason for hers to be any damper than mine." Cetara scowled. "Probably means they all were, not that I actually know. Bloody hell if I understand what that leads towards though."

"It doesn't give us any answers, but it's a start. Kimbal, what do you think?"

"You're on to something, Kimbal, since it has to be magical of some kind. But why water? How does water help whomever it is abduct children?" Cantra gave Kimbal a friendly pet on the back, as a of reassurance.

Mevra thinks on the subject, though she's not sure that she's heard of such a thing before...
