[D&D 3.5]: Dungeons and Dining interest check
« on: March 07, 2013, 01:26:39 PM »
Right. The way I figure it, the best way to flesh out the setting is to have people adventure in it to build some history. I'm not very experienced as a DM, but I figure I should give this a go.

It is said:

"There is a kind of dragon in the mountains of the continent, each succulent bite marbled to perfection and melting in your mouth... There are springs deep within the forests which pour forth fine wines made from the succulent juices of the finest jungle fruits, in which bubble infinitely sweet and tart bubbles... That tremendous creatures made of slime continue building sweetness as they eat, and that there are crabs the size of cities with the most succulent meat imaginable..."

The world has entered a gourmet age. People are enchanted by countless dishes, growing stronger by eating the life energy of all creatures granted by the gods. For by eating the flesh of powerful creatures, they hope to gain a bit of their power.

The world is in the Gourmet Age, in which people quest for yet unknown culinary delights! Those who seek out these delights, be they in deepest dungeons, coldest tundras, or blazing volcanic plains are known as... Gourmet Hunters!

Right. The idea is that the group of players (starting level 10) is a team of gourmet hunters with some history together- that's to be worked out by the players. They travel the world in search of fine cuisine, and the tremendous profits it brings them. Wherever they search, adventure awaits. So... anyone interested?

Any 3.5 WoTC sources, with Homebrew subject to review. and you can roll for stats or do 75 point-buy (stats starting from zero, naturally).

Not sure about houserules beyond "no experience for constructs, but double the treasure" and rolling twice to see if it's a critical fumble (requires rolling two natural 1's in a row, then a roll on a table.).

I'm interested (though crit fumbles makes me a sad muscle wizard).

I'd love to play an Astronomer, if you'll allow it.

Interested.

Should probably come up with some ideas that do not involve these things. Hmm...

Play a martial adept with these disciplines.

EDIT: Also, relevant.

I've already expressed my dislike of that third one. :p

Tentatively, I think Doppelganger/Greater Doppelganger

That's eating themed and I've been wanting to play one.

The 'eating people' thing is kind of why I'm trying to think of a non-Mind Flayer character. Wrong sort of campaign for someone that's eating other people, I think. :/

The Greater Doppelganger is aghast at your insinuation. Why he would never dream of killing an innocent in order to consume them. Such things are lowest barbarity and he is an esteemed man of science and learning. Indeed, he has selflessly focused all his considerable powers on  increasing the store of knowledge on the subject of arcanobiology. He takes carefully measured samples of the cerebral tissue of exotic lifeforms only when they have already been dispatched in combat.

CNC, I'm really not sure someone who goes around eating PEOPLE would work in the game. That's... kind of why people kill drow on sight in the setting.

... would a mindflayer even be able to gain XP?  :huh

I take it reusing the concept of a drow samurai with a T-Rex mount is out of the question, then?  :lmao

Sadly, 3.5's samurai don't get druid companions as mounts. No, I don't think a Mind Flayer could gain XP. They'd probably just outfit themselves with increasingly more powerful magic items to stay competitive.

Hmm. Couldn't they just get something to eat whatever it is for them, then eat its brain?

Oh, I wasn't planning on playing the actual class, just to go for the stylistic stuff. Take Leadership and have a T-Rex as a cohort, because I know there's a class for that on this place.

Tentatively Swordsage 10 with access to this discipline, if possible.

@Group: I am not familiar with Swordsage... Any good multiclass options aside from other initiator classes?

@Clanjos: what's your opinion on Weapons of Legacy? I am planning on working on God Slash's Legacy weapon and want to know if you allow the material...

Speaking of eating stuff I had a funny thought.

Awakened Living Spell (Horde Gullet)  :lol

Edit
@Clanjos, what is the party size limit?
Also if it's 5 or more. Would a Sentry Awakened Spell (Great Thunderclap & Glitterdust) be allowed?
As is, 5 HD, CR 8, but no LA. kind of dumb (2 int) but decent ability scores (23 cha!). Slam attack is DC 19, engulf of course is Save less which lets you consume blind/deaf/stunned living creatures...

Oh my god! I just "launched" my aboleth character I've been pining to play in the High Arcana game! I think it would fit quite well in this one, though! :P Maybe I can play two different ones... or will think of something else... I definitely am interested, though. How many PCs were you planning on having?

I don't think this is the 'unspeakable abomination of nature' game, somehow. Aboleths, living spells, doppelgangers...

At least Mind Flayers are extant in the setting. >.<
