Unearthed Arcana: AlterNAHtive Initiative
« on: July 10, 2017, 05:19:32 PM »
Ugh...

As much as I love to roll initiative every round, this system feels like trying to get info from the govt in Brazil, useless, time consuming, migraine inducing and ultimately serves only to burn your time and your money.

Like, I understand what they're going for, but that's definitely a bridge too far. I'd rather use WW Init than Greyhawk Init, any day.

I actually really like it when it comes to tactical play. 5e doesn't really need the caster nerfs that badly, but I'd definitely use a similar system in a homebrew game.

"This idea is bad."

"Let's call it Greyhawk."

"Ha ha, yeah, fuck Greyhawk man."

I'd rather use WW Init

Ironically, the order they end up with from their bad-idea-initiative would work better as WW declaration order.

This whole system is counter-intuitive to 5e's attempts to simplify dice rolling and speed up combat.  The thought is nice but it would work better in an automated format than one actually rolled at a table.

Man I love Greyhawk, and it seems that Wotc likes to bring back the name every now and then just to drag it through the mud for the new generation...

I was trying to figure out a good way to break the timing of actions into chunks for a rolling initiative counter. The cheatsheet version of this pretty much covers it for me.

Obviously ignoring the idea of an initiative counter "per round" and just letting the counter roll on forever.
