Land of the Machine
« on: November 11, 2011, 05:45:04 PM »
The world has changed, two hundred years have passed since the age of magic and heroes. Great machines can now do what only the most powerful of mages could have hoped to achieve and gunpowder wielding troops make a mockery of heroes who would have killed them in their hundreds.

The land of Talamh is where this story is set, There are four great cities in Talamh. Three specialize in different types of machines and the capital Baile combines these into wondrous new kinds of technology.

Gaile the city of steam is a sprawling blackened city of metal held aloft by a cushion of superheated water, it moves slowly across the landscape of the norther mountains with teams of miners hunting for ore in the forgotten mines and caves of the area. The city is constantly surrounded in a never ending rainstorm caused by the steam released into the air.

Thintrí city of sparks was only recently built, its gleaming brushed metal and glass architecture hides its traumatic inner workings, it moves across the landscape of the great central plains slowly following herds of great beasts that make their home there held aloft by a great concentration of energy on its underside.

Meaisín city of wheels rests on the great sea of crystals to the south, it traverses the shallows along the coastline using propellers and sails to push it along as the inhabitants hunt for fish and coral in the clear blue waters. As its name suggests Meaisín is built from many rotating sections and where one street may connect to another one day it may have rotated by the next.

Baile is the only stationary city of the four, its potential extractors set far past the city's walls allowing great swathes of farmland to be accessed. It is the capital of the four and it is home to the greatest minds in the land, all working away to produce new and wonderful technologies.

There was once another city, Réamhamhairc city of crystals whose technology involved containing and moving magic using crystals. All that remains today is a perfectly spherical crater a hundred miles across that cuts an abandoned village at its edge Iascmyr in half  bisecting buildings with inhumanly perfect precision. The city of crystals is known for its one greatest invention, the Potential Exchanger however this technology was lost in its downfall and so the other cities that rely on them take fastidious care and guard the ones they have already greatly.
