Can't be certain, but I'd be surprised if we don't run into an encounter of some sort down the trap door. Might be a good idea for Fina to come join the rest of the party. Given that we're kinda going in blind, being at full strength might be important.

Flay's character said he wanted to go first. If not him, I'm happy to (I don't have his stealth abilities but Dragon Senses could be handy.)

If you wanted to post saying "I tell Fina what's happening" you could, or we could take that as a given. I think Venn is busyish at the moment. If so, it'd be easiest for Fina to hang out at Mrs Yanques and come join us at some unspecified and yet convinient later time.
I did that some time ago. :P

It's also partly my fault for the delay. I will grant that I wouldn't have posted something right away, waiting for Venn to acknowledge Phae & seeing what responses people gave to the 'marching order' suggestions, but I also wasn't on for 5 days.

I'll be updating tomorrow sometime around noon (my time, -0600 from GMT).

Unless I'm told otherwise, I will be posting in the assumption that people descend in the order they posted except with Kelzan going first & ahead of the party a little bit.

Not sure if there's enough to investigate here at this woman's house,

You can always rouse her and ask questions, or try to sneak & snoop.

Nonetheless, allow me to bullet point a list of why you stayed behind to help out your notes:
  • She didn't seem anywhere near as bothered by your groups various oddities as most people.
  • She wasn't fully forthright about why she was the one chosen to deal with Blessed Bloods by the other families, only citing age as a reason.
  • She also seemed to be hiding something when asked about peoples behaviors down at the docks.
  • She's pretty darned smart for an NPC

And the answers you have thus far:
  • She's experienced with dealing with blessed bloods.
  • She was also chosen because of the above.
  • Unknown.
  • The worker at the booth had an Int of 15, and I detailed out why that was. She also has age giving her a +3, for an 18.

New Questions:
  • Why did she used to deal with BB's?

Sorry for being so inactive. Real life has been particularly busy. I should be able to get back up to speed now.

@ Venn, It's cool. Heck, even I wasn't on for about 5 days strait last week.

Okay, so the port cities are named Eavesdown, Southdown & Whitefall.
I cheaped out and just used a picture of Kaylee Frye in her dress for the 'Shindig'.

I think I need a little less 'Browncoat' in my DM'ing.

Incorrect, there is no such thing as too much Browncoat.

I don't have my ToM handy. What would the DC be to know about (soul)binders? And it would be Arcana, right? Or Scholarship? Seeing the bird would make Grey ponder what else Flay's character might be able to do.

Taking 10 on Arcana gives him a 21. Taking 10 on Scholarship gives him a 20.

Info from ToM:

The knowledge check Arcana or Religion so that would be Arcana or Scholarship.

DC 15 gets you "Binders exist, they make pacts with "otherworldly forces" and clerics don't like them"

DC 20 gets "the "forces" are called vestiges and they are souls "lost to the gods and the planes." The Binder lets the soul into their body in exchange for some of its power. Most churches really dislike Binders and some will go out of their way to kill them"

However, All of that information would require you have something to go on for him being a Binder. i.e. that would be the checks if someone said "Hi! I'm Gorgoth, the Binder", and you wanted to know what that meant.

Right now, you've see the Ranger-type guy pull a bird out of nowhere. He has deliberately not let you see any of his signs, and his (Su) abilities don't show anything other than their effects.

You do not know that the bird is a magical effect, and even if you used 'Detect X' on it right now, the best you could get from it would be that it is basically the same thing as a Spider Hand spell, with some changes due to type and school.

His character is deliberately keeping what his training was and what his abilities are (metagame: his class) a secret. And he's doing a damn good job of it. It would be a crappy DM move for me to let someone else undo that with merely a Knowledge check without something to go on.

On that note, actually (funny you brought it up), I'd been playing him quiet intentionally because it was my understanding that binders might not be so welcome in society, but I don't recall if I ever did ask in particular about the binder's societal acceptance or lack thereof for this campaign. How are binders received in this world?
I'm here and ready to keep confusing the hell out of everyone I meet.

They are not really distinguished from other blessed-bloods by the masses.
Otherwise, it depends on the persons personal experiences with binders. Overall, neither positive nor negative. It is, for the most part, yet another case of it mattering more how you use your powers, than what those powers are.

Those of more limited understanding might liken what you do to being a summoner who fuses with your summons.

EDIT: the typical 'clerics don't like you' bit would depend on what vestiges you use, and their interaction with their gods. Hextorian priests vs Savnok, for example.

Does the bird have a mind? Or is it a magical effect? Thanks to Mindsight, Grey would notice if it lacks a mind. Either way, I was just trying to determine how to appropriately separate OOC vs IC knowledge.

Re-reading the ability to answer this:
It seems that it summons an 'actual' Dove or Raven, that you can then control & perceive through.
Animal Intelligence.

For my part, I'll try to post something after work tomorrow. I'm not sure what else Fina can get out of the woman without the right poking and prodding, or if there's really more to the story, though it may not prove easy to tear away from her generosity when Fina's supposed to be ill. I'm sure I can come up with something.

So, I've been wrestling with whether the old woman still has anything she's hiding that I can weasel out of her or whether I should join up with you guys. I ought to just make up my mind...
