Title: friendly technical support
Post by: zook1shoe on August 30, 2017, 01:16:01 AM
i've never done this before, but any recommendations both before and after a winsock (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753591(v=ws.10).aspx) reset?

i've had this recommended to me when trying to rejoin an ARK serve. i was able to early on, but later attempts fail.

What's the issue you're having?  I've never had to mess with winsock so it might not be needed.

was trying to connect to the Nerd Parade server.

i was able to log in once, but later would only get this message

brought it up on their new boards post (http://forum.nerdparadegaming.com/index.php?/topic/44-unable-to-connect/&tab=comments#comment-82)

i also had previously had some Chrome problems connecting, but that seems to have cured itself (or wasn't an actual problem)

If all you're doing is the command line then theoretically nothing needs to be done before or after unless you've installed something that messes with it (which is the only reason a reset would work in the first place).  So, theoretically this might fix the problem but if it does it might break something else.

Is there any way to see if it's a general network issue before going the way of no return?  If your computer is a laptop, try connecting from someone else's network.

would switching from my own 5.0 to 2.4 network be enough?

It depends on where the issue is.  That's a good place to start, but the issue might (theoretically) be your network equipment or the cable/whatever box/cables outside. I'd say switch internal networks.  If that doesn't work, try a friend's house/Starbucks/whatever.  If that doesn't work, then we can get into some more serious stuff.

Also, switching from WiFi to wired wouldn't be a bad test either to add to the mix.
