google :  " Wuhan Coronavirus "
... of whatever is your favorite news source.
They shut down all travel to and from, and mass transit with the CDC's objection.
It's a very big city of 11 million where Chicago is 9 on twice the land.

I went to buy a basic flu mask box.
They were out.
Counter girl says there's a shortage.
I say you mean Wuhan?
She flinched at Wuhan like it was the magic word, and said they told us not to say anything.

calling Doctor PhaedrusXY ?!

Thankfully no (in this case).

Daniel Boone boon-docks, Pennsyl-tucky as it's recently coined.

Granpa went to the dentist, they were all masked which hadn't happened before.

Hong Kong protesters wrecked an isolation treatment center.  That seems quite a bad choice.

Hong Kong is closing some of it's connections to mainland China.

Wuhan's ~governor said some 5 million people exited before the closure.

Students that left for US college Spring semesters seem to be solidly + safely in front of the infection wave.  So that's some good news.

My roommate is trying to quit smoking. They have BPD and are on shaky ground on the best of days. We are very low on weed, which would be the best way to smooth both of these things out. Ugh.

I have reached a new level of trying to contain the nonstop stress from gaslighting ignorance that I am once again self-medicating as above.  I swear, the next one that pops off is going to get the A Cookbook's version of "gaslighting"  :shakefist :shakefist :shakefist :banghead :banghead :banghead

One of my reliable indicators of Agit Prop Volume success, went off.

To counter, here's an actual science based approach :

... still, not exactly good news.

ADM, I recall you mentioning you're on Linux.  Have you ever thought about using something like TAILS to bypass the weenie filter, or is it at the ISP level?  Even so, a nice locked down VPN might do wonders if you're not on one already.  Figured I'd ask!

Not a rant, but definitely not a positive overall...

Today my dad and uncle put my grandpa in a care center.  Said grandpa is about to turn 93.  Grandpa's lived in this house for 55 years, and the reaction my dad said grandpa had when he realized he was being placed in the care center...  He apparently didn't say anything, but he was furious.

I know the caretakers see this sort of thing all the time and that they're capable (though probably a bit understaffed like a lot of medical places in the US) but I've suddenly got a bad feeling and felt the need to share.  I hope my grandpa is able to be taken care of, and also gets the socializing he needs since he is a very social person and we here at home really can't do much.

I'm crying and the house feels weird (lived here for about 26 years now).

Hugs for Jack.

Yeah it sucks

... your Grandpa must be a tough ol' proto-c.o.-er to make it all the way to 93.

Ask him about old relatives and stories from his childhood, while you still got time.

LInux + Firefox, option for Chrome, the tech guys are iffy, the real tech guys are in Canada, it's complicated, I have no particular say so (or not really).

Sometime someday yeah I might just try something like what you posted.

We all had a shot, but the ramp up in test kits just wasn't there.
As in Italy, get ready to hunker down.

Since they don't have enough test kits, people with some (!) symptoms are NOT tested.

They don't have enough test kits because a certain fucking imbecile doesn't want the infected count to go up and make "his" stock market go down.  And cut all the jobs responsible for dealing with this shit.  Because reasons.

Wash those hands, because we don't have any Clerics high enough level for Cure Disease.

Yeah it really is sad.

South Korea and British Columbia started making their own test kits back in late January.
Fast forward to the genetic sequencing of Covid-19 virus SARS-CoV-2, and it turns out to have been circulating in Washington state a full 6 weeks ago.

B.C. and Wash are right next door ... there's a small part of Washington that you can't get to without drive through B.C.
What the duh ... couldn't a halfling burglar filch a test at a watering hole, on the way back to the ~shire ?!

Guys, I get that everyone is concerned about that virus, but here's two things to keep in mind.

1) Wash those hands, stop touching your face, and keep calm. Probably the most important one. People are freaking out over how contagious this is, but they forget that the remission rate is actually pretty damn high. This is yet another airborne virus that puts people with low immunities at risk. You guys remember H1N1? That was the last time I got sick with something like that, and it was at a time that my immunity was tanking pretty bad. And if I survived it, so can you.

2) The whole world is coordinating on this. It won't be long before a cure is found, but by then we will have other stuff on our plate. Previous epidemics of measles and the like could have been significantly more devastating. Don't buy into the fear. Just make sure your elder and child-aged loved ones drink plenty of OJ and follow step one, okay?
