deathnote game
« on: November 27, 2011, 01:37:43 PM »
Okay my freind Jojolager and I have come up with an idea for a game and we are using the fate system

It will follow a similar style that of deathnote with people
scheming against each other with conflicting goals, and plans.  Each Person will represent one person or a group.

Their will be two types of players.
(click to show/hide)

A twist to the game that borrows from deathnote is that their are rules that will only be revealed to players on a need to know basis or if they figure it out.

The objective of the game will be to have your group/persons goal be completed.

Right now we are planning out the rules and will be asking for input.

Hmm, somehow I can see a sort of board/card game thing going on like Arkham Asylum, blended into RPG format.
Everything is edible. Just that there are things only edible once per lifetime.
It's a god-eat-god world.

Procrastination is the thief of time; Year after year it steals, till all are fled,
And to the mercies of a moment leaves; The vast concerns of an eternal scene.

Simulatable if you remove the random card factor with player action and character/scenario design.

That is to say, instead of drawing cards, players and the GM decide on the particular cards they are deploying, and the game would be to get the right clues in hand to play your own abilities.

that would make for an intresting thing but it wouldn't allow for as much planning the game.I was thinking about using a Constricted version of the gurps

Ah...probably doing yourself a disservice with that then.

Well, its good points are nowhere near the focus of the game you're trying to make. It has attention to detail and deep coverage of specificities, but your game sounds like its focused on investigation and duels of scheme against counter scheme.

true, I coudn't think of any other systems pre existing that would work for this so we might end up building it completely on its own

Try FATE or other drama based rather than detail based systems?

So far, Fate seems quite good as a starting point.
It would require quite a bit of alteration, but I can already see ways to change it so one player could be Kira (Individual), One could be L (Individual), one could be the Kira Investigation task force (Small Group), One could be the US Government (Large Group), ect.
We'd need a way to add rules for small and large groups, and of course, only the DM's and the player will see that players character sheet.
Wait, no, we just have a special version of minions for groups.  :clap
You know what, I'm just going to stop brainstorming until I've finished looking at the rules.  :rolleyes
So far, a intrigue focused version of FATE seems damn perfect.

Out of net access for a bit. Should be back late monday.

Yeah, groups of people can be just treated as 'extra large' characters there.
