Other Games / Re: Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition

I think a lot of people around here know, but if not, I'm the founder of the Player Resource Consortium, the largest mod ever released for NWN and still under active development all these years later. Our goal is to add a ton of content and shift the game closer to PnP rules to put a little bit more challenge back into things.

Drop by either Discord (MMX or PRC) if you want to catch up.
I know it's been forever but this is still on the first page, so I'm going to say it's fair game.

That's awesome!  I joined the discord, and I've been using that hakpak forever.

Other Games / Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition
« on: May 12, 2019, 02:38:36 AM »
I just realized that Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition came out last year (basically a reboot of the 2002 BioWare game based on D&D 3rd edition).

For those that are not familiar, it has a pretty decent re-creation of 3rd edition rules, converted to real-time (with pause) and a decent but not extensive(it doesn't have every splatbook like we're used to) list of classes, prestige classes and feats to scratch that minmax itch.

The main limitation I've found, is that you can only pick 3 classes (including prestige); but, that still leaves quite a bit of wiggle room.  It's also refreshing to see the imbalance preserved, you could play a monk with your CHA maxed out and pick toughness every time... if you really wanted to.

I've been looking through recent character build threads and it's nice to see new 3e players running around.

hello hello hello!
this is not a necro.
because nobody bothered to say hello...

I didn't think I would like 5th, but lately I find that I prefer 5e as a DM and 3.5 as a player...  :plot

oh and welcome to the boards!

General D&D Discussion / Re: looking for the most extensive random tables
« on: October 29, 2017, 11:54:10 PM »
I thought central casting was another system at first, but I guess it's more of a cross-system random table thing, interesting.

and yea, I would have totally missed the "Hero Builder's Guide", I was probably never going to open that book ever again, turns out there's some name lists by race in the back too, neat.

Hackmaster, Rolemaster, interesting, I'll look into those.

I had heard of the infamous FATAL, while I am using a lot of tables, ... I'm not going there, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the replies!

General D&D Discussion / looking for the most extensive random tables
« on: October 22, 2017, 05:37:30 AM »
I'm making something ridiculous and looking for the most extensive random tables, don't care which system (anything from D&D to pathfinder, OSRIC or whatever), I also don't care whether it's cannon, home-brew, 3rd party or "licensed official content", books or websites.

Looking for everything random: encounters, NPCs, villages, dungeons, story plots, items, etc. everything.

I know that most DM/GM guides are going to have a lot of tables, and the complete list would be ridiculous, but which ones really went crazy overboard with the random tables?

Edit: Apparently, there's a whole subreddit for that called BehindTheTables they have a TON of random tables.

Off Topic Fun / Re: Worst 5 words a DM could say

"Clerics should only be healing."
"Power Attack is too powerful."
"Wizards are like weaker sorcerers."
"All bards just suck, period."

"Roll for nostril circumference... twice."

"everyone, calculate hair growth modifiers"
"everyone, remove one shoe durability"

"guys, I graduated wizard school!"

<screaming>
"YOU NEVER TAKE THE HOOK!"
"ALL ROADS FOLLOW THE PLOT!"
"SIT STILL WHILE I'M NARRATING!"

exactly, what books

I think it's great they're putting this stuff out for free, I'm just saying that if there were books out there with more stat blocks, I would buy them.

MTG is neat, but I'm not going to run a campaign in Zendikar or wherever, I can re-fluff the core all day.  I want more stat blocks that I can use as a toolbox and put them into a customized campaign.  Just my preference, that's all.

that would be like balancing Magic the Gathering by trying not to make too many new cards...

New Bear 1G
Creature - bear
See old bear.
Rawr! 2/2

I feel a rant coming on, but I'll put it elsewhere... maybe,

I can see the value in what you're saying, but I just find that mindset uninteresting, and it doesn't make me want to buy more 5e books.
