Uhh... I thought we just rolled twice and took the better roll? So if you have one class that is d6 and another that is d8 on the other side, you'd roll d8 twice and pick the best. Is that not right? (Not that it mattered for me, as both classes are d8...)

And a question: Would you allow the Shapeshifter PrC from Oriental Adventures? I know if I use that, I'm basically building a quasi-druid... but I wouldn't mind picking up a few levels of it. It's basically adding more druid to the watered-down spontaneous casting druid that the Spirit Shaman basically is. :P (and yeah, I could just be a druid, but I want to try something different  :flutter )

Edit: And would you let some of the newer Polymorph subschool spells count for entry? The PrC was obviously written before those existed, and so they weren't taken into account for entry requirements.

No, you're right; dna1 should have rolled 2d8 (and taken the best one) four times.  But apparently I'm coming across like this:

Absolutely you could.

I'll allow any of them that are 4th level or higher to qualify you for it.

My sister recently disagreed with you...  Of course, she's got a corn cob stuck where the sun don't shine, so that's generally her demeanor toward everything.

I'm temped to start the main thread tonight.  You guys could still have until Saturday night to finalize stuff on your character sheets.  Initial post will just have you traveling along a road, so you guys could role-play casual conversation that occurs over the course of a few hours.

phaedrus, just treat your existing binding check to have been the one you did that morning (or possibly during the night).  You'll see what I mean when you see the first post.  You guys can each decide how and why (within reason) you are all present on the road that day.  There will be some supposition in the post that at least one of you was working for a merchant as a guard.  You'll see what I mean.  Just insert yourselves as you see fit.

I can post the Lute info when I get home.
The important bits:

Quote

Bardic Music: A bard playing a lute is treated as one level higher for the purpose of adjudicating the power of his bardic music effects. For example, a 3rd-level bard using a lute could fascinate two creatures instead of one, a 6th-level bard using a lute to make a suggestion would calculate the save DC as if he were 7th level, and a 7th-level bard using a lute to inspire courage would grant a +2 morale bonus on the appropriate rolls.

A bard who uses a lute for bardic music can cast spells while performing, but only if those spells have no somatic, material, or focus components.

So, it doesn't appear to just grant you an all-encompassing "+1 to inspire courage," but rather ups your level by one.  So, once you are 7th level, the lute would allow your "jotunfire inspiration" to deal an extra d6 of damage.

The Inspirational Boost spell (SpC) would give you an extra d6 of fire damage, though.

The MW horn gives +1 to attack and damage for IC. It's 100 gp. I think it's from CAdv, but might have been from Song and Silence or something...

Unless I'm completely blind (which is a possibility), I'm not seeing any prices listed for any of the masterwork instruments in Comp Adv.

However, looking at chapter 7 of the PHB, we have "Musical Instrument, Masterwork" listed as 100 gp.

And the game has begun.

Edit:  Just a reminder, you have until Saturday evening to finalize your character sheets (not a hard limit, but they should be done by the time I wake up Sunday).  Exact character stats won't be needed until after that time.  Being as it is a holiday weekend for many, I do not plan to start laying any hooks until Monday evening, so enjoy your three-day weekends without guilt.

Awesome. :D How's the weather looking for the day? Trying to decide between Bottle of Smoke or Giant's Wrath for my prepared 3rd level spell. If it's windy, I'll go with the latter. If not, maybe the former.

Edit: Untrained Survival check:
Rolled 1d20+3 : 2 + 3, total 5

You don't know about later in the day, but this morning the wind is coming out of the SW, at less than 10 mph.

phaedrus, shouldn't your hit points be 35, not 27?

You rolled 25 for your five HD, and you have a Con of 14. (It looks like you only applied your Con modifier once).  With your double pact augmentation, it would give you 45 hit points.

Also, just to make sure I'm reading that ability correctly, you are treated in all ways as if you had 10 more hit points, right?  They aren't temporary hit points or anything; you can be healed back up to 45 hp?

Yes, you're right on all counts.

I think we'll all be hiding behind SDK. :P

When binding Malphus (as now), Skulda will send the summoned bird ahead to scout. I think a couple of hundred yards should typically be enough, but I might vary it with terrain. Here the bird will be flying about 3/4ths of the way up to the top of the trees, so it can hopefully see both creatures hiding down on the ground, or in trees. Let me know if you want me to roll its spot checks, but it has the stats of a mundane raven.

What an interesting idea for that spirit companion ACF, Risada! My character has Detect Spirits at will. So it is inevitable that she'll eventually figure out that you're being followed around by one, and she'll definitely be curious and likely approach you about it. Let's just go ahead and RP that out, what do you say? :D

Edit: Actually after rereading the ACF, I'm not sure she could detect it... although fluffwise it sure makes sense that she could! And I think it would be more interesting if she could RPwise, also. I'll wait for the DM to weigh in on this, but will post the text of both abilities below for reference:

(click to show/hide)

Detect Spirits is a Spell-like ability that works like Detect Undead, but on a wider range of creatures.
(click to show/hide)

And here is a side-bar on what counts as a "spirit":
