"whenever you are targeted by a spell, effect, or power that causes hit point damage, you are allowed a Fortitude Saving Throw for half damage.  Save DC is equal to the normal Save DC if the effect allows for one, or 10 plus 1/2 opponents HD plus his appropriate stat modifier if it does not"

Definitely cool, though certainly not world-shattering. Helps with the whole meatloaf in unbreakable hide.

3.5 is disappointingly flawed.

what if you had an ability that basically amounted to allowing you a save for partial effect against damaging spells and abilities whether they allowed one or not?

I'd need an example to comprehend just what you mean.

I'd imagine he means Magic Missile, Orb spells for the damage component, stuff like that.

Edit: Damn sneaky cats.

That would just be a part of it.  The advanced ability is you take half damage on a failed save, and none on a successful one.   Sound viable as part of a barbarian remake?

It seems really powerful against certain spells... But I guess it will help give an edge to melee
