Paladins must be Lawful Good in Core, while Bards must be non-lawful so Bardadin won't work.  Sorcadin looks to be the best option.

C sounds like a total C, and I've donated to you Psysama.

Could you give an explanation for finding a given creature's HEV?  For example, how did you find those numbers for the human, elf, halfling, and dwarf?

The CR comparison is one thing, but the class and race comparison is likely where most of us are going to be interested.

Moving has been hell.  Last week it came to a head when the painters took the bathroom door off to paint, and then the realtor who my uncle hired to help both bring up the house we're moving from and help us into a new one told us my uncle had said we'd be out by now so the realtor scheduled people based on us not being there.  At that point my dad said "we're done here, we have to go to a motel or whatever." so we're at an Extended Stay America for $60 a night each, and we have the rooms for a week so all told it's nearly $900 just for a week's worth of lodging because we can't stay in the house.

We were never given a set date to be out.  It's all been waffle like "Hopefully out before Labor Day" or some shit like that.  Asshole, if you had given us a set day before even hiring someone then we at least would have had a solid goal that we could work towards instead of "Move as fast as you can and get out."

And today while at work I get a text from my dad saying "You need to get up here, now.  They're cleaning downstairs fully." I am so glad I worked my butt off the past few weeks to be ahead on my duties, but I shouldn't have had to be rushed like this.  Now everything is cleaned out of the house now (and a lot moved into the garage, but at least that work is pretty well done) so I hope my uncle is happy.  I so want to punch his lights out.

Yay earthquake!

5.7 quake here in Salt Lake City.  I'm good, my work was good, but there are plenty of people who had a bad time...

Not a rant, but definitely not a positive overall...

Today my dad and uncle put my grandpa in a care center.  Said grandpa is about to turn 93.  Grandpa's lived in this house for 55 years, and the reaction my dad said grandpa had when he realized he was being placed in the care center...  He apparently didn't say anything, but he was furious.

I know the caretakers see this sort of thing all the time and that they're capable (though probably a bit understaffed like a lot of medical places in the US) but I've suddenly got a bad feeling and felt the need to share.  I hope my grandpa is able to be taken care of, and also gets the socializing he needs since he is a very social person and we here at home really can't do much.

I'm crying and the house feels weird (lived here for about 26 years now).

To give an example of ability damage that is often seen as too powerful:

Shivering Touch from Frostburn page 104.  It's a 3rd level spell that does 3d6 Dex damage with no save, but SR does apply.  Classically used against dragons because the majority of them have 10 dex at all life stages, and 3d6 averages out to be 10.5, and a creature that has Dex 0 is paralyzed meaning it's helpless meaning it's subject to a coup de grace.

Mortalbane could redeem Drain Incarnum, but you would have to talk with your DM because taking anything down to 0 in an ability score means it's either helpless in some form or dead in the case of 0 Constitution.

Found a neat trick with the old gish standby of Whirling Blade.

Quote from: Whirling Blade
As you cast this spell, you hurl a single slashing weapon at your foes, magically striking at all enemies along a line to the extent of the spell's range. You make a normal melee attack, just as if you attacked with the weapon in melee, against each foe in the weapon's path, but you can choose to substitute your Intelligence or Charisma modifier (as appropriate for your spellcasting class) for your Strength modifier on the weapon's attack rolls and damage rolls. Even if your base attack bonus would normally give you multiple attack rolls, a whirling blade gets only one attack (at your best attack bonus) against each target. The weapon deals damage just as if you had swung it in melee, including any bonuses you might have from ability scores or feats.

No matter how many targets your weapon hits or misses, it instantly and unerringly returns to your hand after attempting the last of its attacks.

+

Quote from: Iaijutsu Focus
If you attack a flat-footed opponent immediately after drawing a melee weapon, you can deal extra damage, based on the result of an Iaijutsu Focus check.

That bumps Whirling Blade up from "might clear a few mooks" to "Skillmonkey is FIRIN HIS LAZOR"

Do remember that "flat-footed" =/= "denied Dex to AC". Iaijutsu Focus really is situational.

(Actually, now that I look at it, there's nothing actually saying you have to attack in melee, or with the weapon you drew. So you could just draw a dagger and then shoot someone with a crossbow, or throw the dagger - with Quick Draw you could actually full-attack by drawing and throwing a bunch of daggers. Flat-footed is still a major limiter, though.)

Requires a slashing weapon, so crossbow bolts are out unless they do that.  I seem to recall a netcutter variant or something along those lines.

Anyway, getting stuff flat-footed en masse can be quite the pain it seems.

Courtesy of http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=8741 it requires:

Going before them in initiative (first round only)
Paralyzing the enemy (much better things to do vs a paralyzed enemy)
Making it balance if the enemy has less than 5 ranks of Balance (use a Sculpted Grease I suppose?)

And that's mostly it against any decent number of enemies.  There are plenty of ways to make a single target FF but they simply wouldn't work against multiple targets in a 60 foot line.  So I guess it requires setup, but there's one oddity I found:

Rules Compendium pg 92 adds in this part to the Hide skill that applies in other circumstances:

"If you’re successfully hidden with respect to another
creature, that creature is flat-footed with respect to you. That
creature treats you as if you were invisible (see page 76)."

But Invisible says nothing about flat-footed, just denied dex to AC.  So this might be a case of the RC being "errata" again.

I stumbled upon an interesting discussion about Whirling Blade over at ENWorld though: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?170081-Whirling-Blade-Area-effect-or-just-Effect

One big oddity of Whirling Blade is it says "Effect: 60-ft. line."  Not Area.  It's apparently the only spell like this that's instantaneous but the fact that it doesn't have an area means it can't be Sculpted for example.  But being able to Sculpt it would open up some more interesting options.

Anyone know of a race with +Dex and +Wis?

See http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=1281.0 ?  Several anthro races get that, Khepri from Dragon Mag 352, Lesser Zenythri, or Jermlaine.

Only popped in because I saw it on the bottom of the front page.

I know of a Brawler PrC in Dragon 295 pages 72-73, but not a regular class so far.
