D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Which build is better for a general party?
« on: January 17, 2018, 09:12:12 AM »
Hello. Been a while since i posted here

I'll get right to the point, I've been working on a bard build for the longest time now, and had so many ideas rushing through my head. That I had to divide it into 2 separate builds. I finally got both of them in a state that I'm satisfied with, but I'm not sure which one to go with.

One is a Brazen Deceiver build With a focus on Shadow magic, Dirge of Doom and is just an all around Debuffer/Shadowcaster variant.

The other is a Duettist/Sound Striker Build With an emphasis on Buffs and Sonic Magic

With both of them Utilizing Enchantment Magic and Rougish elements to varying degrees

Basically this character is an alluring thief, that only really steals and in some cases kills those who deserve it. Landing her more in the chaotic good area.

The Siren

So which one of these would be better for a Standard party?

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Power's Tier List for Pathfinder

The Warpriest is red 3, because it uses the Cleric's spells with as a 2/3 caster... without actually adjusting the spell levels.

But at the same time the cleric's spell list is such a mishmash, that there are spells on said list that are borderline useless on a cleric, that are amazing on a warpriest. Prime example would be blood crow strike

Honestly the more I look at the magus and the war-priest the more I feel their position is a little.....undeserved. Do i think they should be higher then tier 3? Fuck no. That was accurate, but i do think they deserve to be more on the Blue end then the red.

Have never heard of the Enlightened Paladin, and I could only find a PF archetype. Not familiar enough with PF and the things that can be done there for the Paladin to make it viable to leave an informed comment.

I assume Sacred Fist + Warpriest are also meant to be the PF versions, not 3.5?

Yes that is correct

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Enlightened Paladin vs Sacred Fist Warpriest

If you had to choose one for your party, which would you take and why?

Hey been a while, So i've been looking into pathfinder and the path of war as well as the martial training feats and these 3 combinations caught my eye so objectively which would make more sense for a sacred fist?

Silver Crane makes the most sense thematically but broken blade and steel serpent have their perks too.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Inspire Awe 60 foot range overkill?
« on: April 03, 2017, 02:14:37 PM »
As objective as this is, if a person wanted to prestige out of bard and for some reason wanted inspire awe over inspire courage. Would you say the 60 foot range increase is worth putting 8 levels into bard or could they get away with the standard 30 feet?

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Good Flaws for a Noncombatant?
« on: April 03, 2017, 05:23:12 AM »
While those aren't from Unearthed Arcana, they are official flaws. Dragon Magazine is 100% Official D&D 3.5 Content, it says so on the cover  :tongue

But yes, out of Unearthed Arcana ones, a noncombatant is best simply taking Noncombatant and Murky-Eyed. I do not recommend Unreactive, because if you do get into a fight and you're not specced for combat, going first can let you run away before the enemy has their turn.

Why Murky-Eyed instead of Shaky? There are plenty of uses for ranged attacks that don't need you to be a combatant. Dart games in taverns, passing your friend an item, or slinging rocks from behind cover if you are put into a situation where your combatant friends are busy and you need to pass the time. Not all enemies will have Concealment.

So just be someone who needs glasses, sounds good to me.

To make the most of Craft Alchemy. Or can you make good use of it without the feat?

Depends on the choices of spells you're taking, as whether at least such things are important:

duration
beating spell resistance
damage scaling
buffs surviving dispels

Well it would mostly be battlefield control spells like Grease, Gliterdust, Cloud of Bedevilment and social and investigative spells until level 11 when you get into sublime chord.

I hate making multiple posts but this just came to mind.
How many caster levels can one afford to lose in a build before practiced spell caster becomes a required feat.
I know that if you lose 4 or more you pretty much have to take it, but is it still vital if you only lose like 1 or 2?

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Would a feycraft whip be redundant?
« on: March 31, 2017, 08:42:58 AM »
I just wanted to ask this for clarity, adding the feycraft template to a whip or a rapier, does not allow you to use it without weapon finesse does it?

If you're not planning on making attack rolls anyway, Code of Arms, Pride of Arms, Honorable Challenge, and Honor of the Duel can all be good flaws to take.  Hot-Blooded and Cold-Blooded aren't bad flaws regardless of character build, Fussy is fine if you don't use potions very much, Divine Gesture is okay for an unarmoured divine spellcaster, and Metal Intolerance is good if you don't plan on being in combat, too.

Among the list of official flaws from unearthed arcana,

Unreactive. You don't want to fight anyways.

Shaky is always an easy grab if you have no plans to spec for shooting things. Shooting casually does not count.

I've always been fond of shaky basically a free feat for most of my builds, not so sure about unreactive that -6 hurts

Among the list of official flaws from unearthed arcana, what flaws would be good for someone who is a noncombatant?
And by noncombatant, I mean someone who either prefers to outsmart their opponents, gets the jump on them or prefers to talk their way out, basically anything that doesn't involve a head on fight.

Personally I'm torn between Frail, Vulnerable, Shaky and Noncombatant(Obviously)

Basically what it says up top, if you wanna to ranged combat but it isn't your main thing is precise shot still needed or can you afford to wait until you can afford the enchant?

Heres an example
If you were the parties Skillmonkey/Spellcaster/face
Which feats would make more sense?
Force of Personality and Sociable Personality
or
Pointblank shot and precise shot?

Because on one hand if you're doing anything with archery you should make sure your as accurate as possible right?
on the other hand you can just not shoot people when they are in melee so...idk.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Thoughts on alter fortune.
« on: March 22, 2017, 11:52:58 AM »
This is one of those spells that kinda has a mixed reception as far as i can tell.
On one hand people hate that it costs 200 xp to use,
on the other hand how much is not dead worth? A LOT more then 200 xp.

So what do you guys think?

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Glitterdust and Cloud of Bewilderment
« on: March 21, 2017, 06:56:10 AM »
Why? Blinded & Nauseated stack.
* Nauseated locks them to a move action.
* Blinded halves their speed, making it harder to run, and it's easier to hit them.

Good point

Would having both of them be redundant?

Put the stuff in a HHH, or BoH, then cast suppress magic (MoI, Clr 2, Sor/Wiz 2, Hex 2, 1r/Lvl). Carry your non-magical bag of apples or whatever into the protected area, and let the suppression expire. If you need more time, extend it or whatever.

but wouldn't suppressing the magic make everything in there...you know pop right out?
