"I need to check something." Mist says, before mysteriously vanishing and moving through the center towards the aura she spotted.

Mist steps out into the central chamber. The niche from which the aura originated contains a large unmarked stone sarcophagus, topped off by a life-sized, finely made marble statue of a weeping angel. The aura comes from directly beneath the ghastly decoration. Moving the statue would obviously go beyond Mist's limited physical strength, especially without damaging the objet d'art by making it fall.

Mist relays her finding to the group through telepathy. My senses have detected something magical, but will need a couple strong hands to assist me. It is in the central chamber.
Hmm.

Let's just make sure it's all clear.

Hank tilts his head toward the gnome.  Do your thing.

The crusty old gnome's eyes roll back in his head as he makes a soft whistling noise.  A white dove suddenly appears on his shoulder.  It hops down onto the gnomes thick, ink-stained index finger.  With a flourish he launches it into the air and the dove flies down the cavern and around the large central room surveying the territory.

Hank sneaks up the passage with his bow ready.

Despite looking far and wide, the dove doesn't spy any sign of life in the central chamber. Nor does Hank with his more cautious approach.

Shifting into a position from which they can watch the central chamber and some of the approaches, Karlat and his men reload their bows and ready them for anything that might appear.

There you are! Sorry for the wait. Well that's quite a piece of work.   Hank thinks as he walks up to Mist looking up at the weeping statue.  He motions to his crew.  Maybe all of us together can move it.  Do you think it might be trapped?

Yuki indeed manages to drag the statue, even if with some effort and barely so. As soon as she does so, three large figures emerge with a loud scream from the dirt floor, composed of dirt soil sprinkled with splinters of bones, tombstones and coffins:

The grave elemental in front of Karlat's henchmen claws after the one in the back with its morbid appendage, barely missing.

With the enemy focused on his juniors, Karlat focused his efforts on enhancing what they could do. Saethwr and Cwalu, knowing their role in combat, slipped backwards out of the reach of the creature, with Saethwr free to take a potshot.

Another grave elemental erupts violently from the ground, knocking Hank aside into the middle between the two grave elementals.

A third one erupts in the south-west corner of the chamber. Noting Karlat directing his troops, it takes a step forward and sticks its arms into ground with ominous chanting. A moment later bony hands and arms erupt from the spot where Karlat is standing, dragging him up to the knees into the graven soil. And the arms keep on pulling and pulling him deeper and deeper...

Mist steps back as her shadowy companion Hazy leaps to where she was, hissing violently at the elemental, unnerving it a little despite only being a construct of Mist's twisted imagination.

She incants a Curse at the close pair of elementals to weaken them, before materializing a polearm of magic and striking the one in front of her, unleashing an aura of intimidation as she strikes. A black aura of shadow surrounds her weapon and seems to leap onto it as if a living being, attempting to block its sight.

Yuki steps forward, sizing up the enemy, then shrugs and attempts to strike it. Everything has a weak point somewhere.

The grave elemental in front of the niche hit by Yuki and Mist is heavily damaged by now, scattering loose grave goods everywhere. It shouldn't endure much more trauma.

In one fluid motion David whips out his crossbow, takes a 5ft step back, and fires.

Hank rolls with the clobbering smash of the grave elemental and spins to the side managing to shrug off the full force of the blow.  "Let's dance, big guy!" Holy fire envelops Hank as sizzling blades spring into his hands.  With a deft strike he lances the first grave elemental into a heaping mound of no longer animate debris. He continues his dance with a one two strike at the elemental focused on dragging Karlat into the ground.

Distracted by neither curse nor blade, the chanting elemental continues to drag Karlat into the ground.

Surprisingly, the light hit turns out as enough to distract the monster from its chanting. The bony hands withdraw into the ground, allowing Karlat free movement again... for now.
