I'll be finishing up an MSc in Social Work come April and then leaving the UK to practice in Philadelphia - absolutely terrified, the american social work system looks, well, fragmented to non-existent...

Prior to that it was MA by research in philosophy and BA philosophy.

Bozwevial: Where do you study now? Cardiff is a pretty neat city. Granted, I've only been there for a total of two weeks, but seemed nice enough.
Right now I study at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. It's very rural and a decent distance from many larger cities, so it's not a hotbed of activity by any means. Most of the excitement here is student-generated.
Fair enough. What prompted you to consider Cardiff? However, as I said, it's a nice place, so no worries there. If you actually drag yourself to this island, we have to meet somewhere sometime.
Part of the reason is that it's one of the few Colgate-sponsored programs for CS majors, apart from the general study groups, and getting into those is much more hassle than it's worth. That said, I've always wanted to visit the UK.

Sounds good. Cardiff is only a four hour busride away from the Heathrow as well, which is convenient. I'd say it's maybe 3, 3.5 hours away from London in general and that's a very nice place indeed.

Cardiff central is two hours away from London Paddington by train, remarkably quick.  Cardiff is quite nice and it's next door to Bristol which is very nice, you'll enjoy it.

Trains are faster, that's for sure. I just happen to use Megabus due to budget constraints.

After a 9 hour megabus from Newcastle to London I promised myself never again.  I think every crying child and arguing couple in existence was on that bus

I recently graduated with a degree in philosophy and another in film & video production, with a minor in ethics. Hopefully, if I can fight off the cruel procrastination of winter, I'll be applying to get a masters in either aesthetics or ethical philosophy.

Yeah double majoring in college!

Yep! And let me tell you double majoring in a purely theoretical field as well as an almost exclusively practical field is no picnic.

I double checked with him, he is actually doing film & visual culture with philosophy, nothing to do with production. Mixed his degree with that of another guy I know.

It is a rather nice pairing, I ended up doing my undergraduate senior thesis on a combination of philosophy and films so it ended up working out rather well.

That's always nice to hear.

I just finished my essay a couple of hours ago. A fine piece of work!
