List of Illithid related sources
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:08:26 PM »
Is there one? Can we make an unofficial, hastily hashed together one? I legit don't know where to look for Illithid related content outside of the MM.

Honestly I need this for myself as I haven't had time this week to prep between work and the new Dark Souls DLC -_-'

Please & thank you I love ya'll~

Lords of Madness has quite a big Mind Flayer section.

Monster Manual V has the Mind Flayers of Thoon although that's more of a spin-off.

Anything related at all is useful for me. Are those the only two notable sources?

XPH, and The Complete Book That Shall Not Be Named have some content (Illithid Slayer, at least for XPH, and Illithid Heritage Feats for the second), as does Dragon Compendium (Illithid Bloodline), FR-Underdark (Illithidwrought wp and armor, Half Illithid, Illithid grafts, etc)

[edit]Savage Species has a little[/edit]

If you don't mind 2e stuff there's the Illithiad and the non psychic Yaggol from Dragonlance.

Dragon #255 and 337 have some stuff

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illithid  both these links will give you names of stuff, but not necessarily where  they are from.  PM me if you need help finding stuff.

Book of Exalted Deeds has a redeemed mind flayer.

Monster Manual III has the Voidmind creature template that's created by Mind Flayers.

Fiend Folio has the brain golem that's also created by Mind Flayers.

Grand History Of The Realms, made 1e 2e 3e AND 4e all part of the official realms timeline.  The last one is probably the most problematic.

nijineko is quite clear that Athas.org stuff is official for Dark Sun.
Presumeably this would make Realms + DarkSun illithids into 2 slightly not compatible histories.

There was a small pile of stuff left on the very old wotc Psi board.  Maybe some of the fluff has survived.
http://secretsofthearchmages.net/Threads/2005-Psionics.html

Definite fan collections are floating around out there of varying quality.
I moved over here, a D&D timeline by ripvanwomer with top-notch sourcing :

Beware the AD&D illithid material. It's wacky and gross all at the same time like that guy who found an herb to halt ceremorphosis but allow the physical transformation.

Speaking of which, where is the 3e opposite: all evil illithid but no tentacles? I know I've read it somewhere.

lol, i've been that annoying about it?

the DragonDex will turn up some illithid articles if you search by "illithid" and "flayer".

Dungeon also has some illithid-based adventures scattered hither and yon.

Uh no, not annoying.
More noting you're our resident Athas guy.

I like the general idea that the Realms and Dark Sun , do Not have fully compatible timelines.
It's perfect for the fluff.
Something similar to a Star Trek TNG episode, where the various alternative universes
are all popping into this one, and the crazy alt.Riker won't go back, so this Riker kills them.
Just the kind of thing an Illithid would do.
Hey wait, Star Trek + Illithids crossover ?

Bump on my thread hijack. I see to recall the text saying that no tentacles meant not grapple->kill ability and therefore eating brains was more difficult.

EVD - Feat List. Search for Aberrant and aberation
The Illithid Graft list from the graft section of the EVD is full of body modification fun, but all of the graft section is a sure fire ticket to body horror. Also, don't forget the magic item that curses the target with an extra head that can act on it's own. I want to grow two of them put a helm of opposite alignment on each, and do that on the race of aberation psionistics who have three personalities inside them.
If you have questions about 3.5 D&D, you might want to look at the:
Encyclopedia Vinculum Draconis

Wow aDMg, those were not at all what I was looking for.

I could have sworn it was in a 3.5 book talking about cerebromorphosis and how it sometimes doesn't finish, leaving an illithid without the tentacles or other physical changes. Or does no one else remember this?

Edit: Atleast Bhu remembers. Still no dice on finding this though.

I do, and wiki mentions it as a failed ceromorphosis, but it's not in LoM.

How 'bout this one (which could be an illithid's great*17 grandmother) :
