Whatcha lookin for? I know a couple of people I can talk to, but one does it recreationally, the other is professional, but I don't know how much time he has.
I wouldn't always have to be right if so many people didn't insist on always being wrong.

i 'need' to make a couple void covers for my motorbike.

my printer will do up to 6 inches in any direction, i need a couple wedge shape pieces.

if i stumble on to some proper dimensioned pieces, i may just hand cut em. but if i print em, they could be a little nicer...

That might be a better idea.

The recreational CAD works on doing 3d modeling of humanoid (he's sent me armor designs he wants me to whip up for him) and the other probably wouldn't take it on out of concern for non compete clauses in his contract (he's a graphic designer for a large ish corporation).

Sorry i couldn't be more help.  :-\

I've done some "modeling" ... my butt looks huge enough in 2d ; I don't wanna scare people in 3d.
Well wait maybe I do wanna scare people in 3d.

Oh you aren't talking about that kind of modeling.
 :tongue

I got to see an extended presentation of a college's 3d printing system, recently.
The big shot speech guy said (I've no idea the veracity of this):
NASA and the Russians couldn't figure out how to do a Mars Lander
that could carry a Rover down with it.  They contacted Hollywood
(of all places) and random creative guy says:
"make the Lander and Rover the same thing."

So anyway his point (maybe mine too) is the Engineers and Physicists
don't have all the answers, and need Outliers to come up with some ideas.

And that, dear sir, is why they're trying to put more liberal arts courses into engineering and tech courses. Even CS and Business degrees, faculty has been known to lament that their graduates lack crucial critical thinking skills necessary to solve problems that might occur outside the curriculum.

It's great to memorize stuff, but a generation of hamsters is only good if all you need are hamster wheels.

I have a bona fide bachelor's of fine arts in Visual Effects, having concentrated on 3D modeling. Alas, my tools mainly consisted of Maya and Mudbox, and I doubt that I'd be able to do any good in this sort of project. Never modeled for a 3D printer before.  :-\

"i think" most formats convert / can be used.

it just need to be a .stl file. dont know of any other particulars.

you could download something from thingiverse and compare it to what you know..

The cylinder head(s) in a car engine
use a kind of loss casting technique
where an interior space is blocked off
but then the block ~evaporates to leave
behind an empty space.  But it's still not
precise enough, so it needs plenty of
machining afterwards.

At some point a 3d printer will be able
to do both above steps at the same time.
I figure a pop culture version would use
a transparent material, and have something
really interesting going on.  Something like
the "Van Gogh Vodka" bottles, and in 3d
but not so cheesy obvious.
