Natureborn mentions Dragonborn and talks about keeping your existing RHD and losing other racial traits but nowhere does it actually state that it is a template, not a base race.

Still, the flavor and scaling abilities are awesome.

Spooky baby corrupting forces in another thread inspire other horrors.

For some reason, today I am a 3 ft pile of garlic.  Does anyone know what that's about, or have I lost my grip on reality again?

I figured as much.  Their main draws are good dex and wis, and a useful stench, but they're lacking elsewhere.  Is that a "LA 1 is too high" or "LA 1 is too low" shocked face?

(Caught a typo in the stench spray, it's only in the 20 ft line, not 20 ft, then 30 ft out from that.)

low

Do tell.  I may be wrong after all.

From my perspective its higher on the LA 1 scale but not enough to justify LA 2.  To be sure though I staggered the fly speed (you don't get to actually fly until 6 HD) to lower it's overall LA, Dragonborn style.

Compare it to an Ogre in the SRD which is a +2.  The Flumph have better stat bonuses, about the same AC Bonus, and they trade the Ogres reach for Hover/Flight, Bardic Lore and Stench Spray.

They are about equal to Githzerai, which is also a +2.
Hmm.

Are you sure?  The ogre I have access to at the moment is actually ECL 6 (4 RHD + 2 LA) with not terribly comparable statlines.  It's probably not the best example.  Though... for what it's worth reach is one of the best things you can have.

Lemme see if I can come up with something.  Typically rather than compare it to other LA materials I compare it to a character of level X, since that's what its supposed to be (by and large I find most LA things not to be worth it, so coming up ahead of them is normal).

(click to show/hide)

Perhaps someone better with numbers than I would like to crunch them.

(EDIT: The Gith are closer and a fair point.  I'd like to compare it to equal ECL character classes as its ultimate test since I don't know if the Githzerai are worth that's LA or not.  They look fair though.)

I'd still like more input on the flumph if possible.

In the meantime, villians now have an excuse to be load-bearing bosses.
