So I'm at the bank this morning, and they're moving in more money. Which means armed security on the scene, which is cool since I'm used to it.

...until I get closer.

Let me start by saying I haven't had military training. Most of my observations are based on things I read about somewhere.

Anyway, because of the sheer amount of people present, I have to use the ATM closest to one of the guards. He's wearing sunglasses INSIDE a building and brandishing this large-ass shotgun, finger on the trigger - essentially an armed douchebag. I idly comment to myself that I had never seen a shotgun that close.

To which he tenses up and responds there's no need for me to get any closer, either, and reaches for his pistol.

Which I could see had the hammer cocked and safety off, just WAITING for a misfire. And this guy was trying to use it to intimidate a freakin' civillian, someone who was obviously unarmed and not up to hurting anyone. I later noticed pretty much every last of them had their weapons in similar position and conditions. There must have been on the upwards of 30 people in that bank including myself. Imagine what kind of shit could have gone down if someone got pissed at an ATM for whatever reason, considering how high-strung they were.

Something tells me that kind of fucker hasn't exactly had extensive training. I didn't feel threatened by the possibility that they'd pull a gun on me. I felt, however, that if someone actually attacked the place, they would probably shoot themselves in the foot, TWICE, before they actually managed to clip an assailant.

He's afraid. That reaction is pretty normal among people who are experiencing pants shitting fear.  WHich means, yes he definitely hasn't had much training.

I haven't had any firearms training, but even I cringed at that.

I'm trying to figure out why he was reaching for a pistol when he was already holding a shotgun...

Perhaps he figured that in the event that I actually attacked him, trying to get the shotgun in proper firing position would've required more maneuvering space than he had available.

Never mind that even if he had drawn the pistol instead, he would've probably needed just about as much space otherwise to get an accurate shot at me - centering the pistol's aim would've required him to bring his arm up.

Probably not terribly well trained. Usually trigger discipline is one of the first things they drill into trainees.

No, dman, that's something infecting your computer.

Though Kaspersky is coughing up a fit every time I open a page, due to the banner having a malicious link (or something.)

Can't we have a forum for at least 2 years before the script kiddies ruin it again?

Oh, I know it is.  I realize now I didn't make my intent clear.  I have something, but thankfully I'm catching it now, and it's not the boards.  Actually already got the file detected, just waiting on clean up.

EDIT: uh....okay, so I was infected by something, but it wasn't what was causing the ad stuff.  No, that was a pluggin that I accidentally installed.  I thought I got rid of everything from that incident last Thursday, but apparently I didn't.  Well!  I caught something else before I even noticed it!  So because of a misdiagnosis I caught a bunch of bad files that I otherwise would not have reason to suspect were there!

I'm going to have a root canal operation done on the 21st of January; which is pretty much when I'm getting back into the country...

Mmm...

Jet-lag and surgery, anyone?

It's my wife's birthday today.

My son woke up mad-ass early, screwing up my breakfast-in-bed plans...
Then he broke the present he gave her (though I was able to exchange it via "it was broken in the box")...
Then I had to return the present from me, since she doesn't want it...

Right.

Smaller problems than yours, but:
Broken string on my instrument, but at least I got a replacement.
All kinds of bad luck with making a pie. Got it done anyhow, but Phaedrus, would you ask Loptr what's up? How can the fates disapprove of pie?

In Firefox, go to the Firefox menu, select add-ons, and mine was....yontoo.  Click "remove".  That's about it.  It might be in "extensions", I believe?  Also the add/remove programs feature in your computer's control panel (assuming Windows) to fully remove the programs.  If you aren't using Firefox, someone else might be able to help.

Chrome= Settings > Extensions.

Well, that was easy. TYVM.
